one day i was on the train using my HTC desire,and everyone else was using an iphone, i was like whats with all the iphones. over the course of that day i saw just as many HTC desires.

Android was always going to be bigger than Iphone, when you have 20-30x more phones with android in the market then ios then its clear that android will surpass, especially when you having the next generation of prepaid phones being all android, its going to really grow. 

The market is growing, not just android. Apple sold a lot more iphone 4s than they did with their 3gs's. I expect them to start being a lot more competitive with their next smartphone, as competitive as they are in the tablets market.

Speaking of phones i recently got a htc phone and a lot of other gamin sites have mobile sites instead of there original and some of them are really good i would like to see a vgchartz mobile site

I haven't seen hard data, but analysts estimate WinPho 7 has shipped 2.5 million devices as of the end of calendar Q1. Things won't get too interesting with that platform until Nokia is ready to start shipping it.

iOS has shipped 189 million devices as of the end of calendar Q1.

Android and iOS devices are actually shipping at roughly the same rate right now, with Android shipping more phones while Apple ships more iPods and tablets.

If you're asking for a software comparison, Android is quickly catching up to Apple in app variety and download rate. New Android DRM support should bring a wider array of streaming video services to Android (Netflix, Hulu, etc.). Apple still maintains a massive lead (think factor of ten or so) in software revenues. Android Market compensates with ad revenues, but some kinds of software just don't work very well with ads.
