Forums - Sony - Wrongly Jailed Security Whistleblower Caught Up in PlayStation Hacker Hunt

I already mentioned the apache vulnerability in the news section before this was posted or even news.

Therefore I am amazing.

businesses also pay tax....

and its not only a matter of sony. if these hackers do not get arrested, it could be another company....and another....and another. the more attacks that happen the lower public confidence is in the government for not stopping it.

thats why in another thread i said the government questionning sony is only a formality. their main target is the offenders who are likely to repeat their actions if they are not caught.

I think this guy is innocent as far as the credit card details go. i have no clue about the laws on probing server security but there probably will be some.

Businesses also overuse government resources when compared to average taxpayers.

So tell me, does SONY CORP (Japanese manufacturer) pay it's fair share to the US, in order to utilise US services to investigate a crime that most likely happened in Europe?

So I guess that government questioning BP was also a formality hm? BP actually got fined for it's incompetence. Sony should count themselves lucky in that regard.

actually businesses pay a lot more than we do because 1) they earn more than we do. 2) they pay a higher percentage than we do.

although sony is japanese, they still have to pay import fees and they have a LOT of people working not only in america but all around the world.

im not saying just because they pay tax they can go around doing wrong things. my point was to the person who claimed FBI is helping them at the expense of the US citizens. their not, infact their helping sony in the interest of the citizens.

if someone sabotaged the oil rig (like they did PSN), BP wouldnt need to pay anything.

and incompetence lies within every company, you cant go around hacking/sabotaging them all on a basis to extract money from them.

That's lovely and everything but I think you will find that an FBI investigation does cost the tax payer money. So the point still stands. regardless of your well crafted analergy - which might I add is actually fundamentally flawed. If a BP oil rig was sabotaged - beyond the reasonable control of BP - Then that would not be their fault AT ALL - and FBI investigation would and should be funded by the tax payer if appropriate.

The PSN hacking is different entirely. The whole cause of the problem is Sony's inadequete security - negligence on Sony's part. You see the difference?

You see, it's never acceptable for private details to be obtained by a hacker. If a company is unable to guarantee security of private details, that company should not be operating. Hacking of systems is an occupational hazard and one a company must be prepared for that deals with business in that area.

Amusingly by the way BP is sueing Haliburton for "sabotaging" their rig.

But this article makes it sound like hacking PSN didn't require people going to great lengths.

Yep and reading other articles would beg to differ.

Have any of those?  In general, all the speculation i've seen has suggested otherwise so far.  Would be interesting to read articles that suggest the opposite.

Google and N4G will be your friends in finding any (and every) thing there is to know about the PSN's situation. There have been discrepancies since the beginning.

Doesn't seem liek you have anything to back it up, and seems like you can't admit what the article is saying tbh.

Sony doesn't have to be perfect 100% of the time you know CGI? They can fuck up and you can call them out, doesn't make you any less of a fan 0_o

Um of course none of their servers are the current one, does anyone know how costly and how much of a hassle it is to upgrade, it is completely unrealistic for a company to upgrade everything everytime something new comes out, seriously what you people expect is just riddicules almost everything has holes in their system enough hackers with enough resources and time will always get in, and they didn't even get anything other then stuff thats on a dozen other free sites with no secruity hell some of them you are allowed to view so yeah, Sony's secruity could have been better but they didn't do anything wrong

I guess you haven't read the latest news.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

Kasz and I have already scratched the issue (wall chat) and I'm pretty sure where your last sentence is going, but I won't waste the time derailing the thread on a meaningless comment.

Wasn't attacking you don't worry, just an observation I've made

Wow that sucks, they must be trying to take advantage of the state of chaos and distraction of Sony's teams that moniter that stuff and do upgrades, probably be alot easier to track down though seeing how everyone sony needs to hire/contact to do it they already have

Except BP's fine was due to negligence, not keeping proper maintenance of it's tools.

Sony, on the other hand, was negligent, not keeping proper maintenance of it's website (the version of Apache that was running was out of date and considered unsafe to maintain).

The two are more similar than you think.
