If they look at the bigger picture, the would realise that most of Sony's actions to date have your best interest at heart as well as their own.

Few companies have your best interest at heart, they just want your money. Sony is DEFINITELY one of those companies.

I think you need to take a look at the big picture here. Sony is protecting their ass(ets), nothing more. They don't give a damn about you and have done nothing but prove this time and time again since the launch of the Playstation brand.

With that said, Microsoft, Nintendo, Apple, etc. are no better.

Yes your right thats why they charge you for online...oh wait no they don't.That's why they want you to buy they're rechargeable batteries for the Dual Shock 3...oh wait it comes with a recharegable battery BUIT-IN.Thats why the try to charge you for a wireless adapter....wait a second where can I be going with this?Hard drive...oh my...where am I going. Can it be that they care about they're....customers like me!?!?!?Well thats Sony for you.:)

Pull your head out of the sand. Seriously.

Five hundred and ninety nine US dollars.

They didn't quickly drop the price by $200 just to be nice--they did it because no one was buying the damn thing.

The fact that they don't do it exactly the same way as Microsoft means nothing--they are a corporation, and corporations only care about money.

they also sold it at a $400 loss.

regardless of the reasons for the price, companies care about their customers, and want to provide a quality good or service, that will satisfy their customers

Wow, some of the extreme viewpoints in this thread............

Anyway, I hope the PSN is up and running soon and packs some of the features that were once considered impossible due to the PSN infrastructure.  That is all.

I've been enjoying InFAMOUS single player and UC 2 Amoung Thievse single player during the downtime.

Do we even know if the PSN was hacked, Annonoymous claimed they had nothing to do with it; although that could be a ruse to avoid the amount of abuse they would get from gamers across the world.

however, i think the thing we've learned is that nothing is unhackable, so imo its best to go after the source - which is annonoymous, fair enough they've got beef with Sony, but why have they taken it out on 70 mil people who have or want nothing to do with them.

A fair few people seem to be wheeling out the "It's free" defence for Sony here.

While technically true there is a lot more to it then that. I bet a shit load of people bought a PS3 because of the non subscription required to play online. The online aspect is advertised as part of the product. Many people will have all the consoles and buy the multi-platform games on PS3 because of it.

To try and imply it is just an extra and you should be grateful for it is just plain wrong in my book.

Am I the only one that read the title and thought the context of this topic was going to be Sony giving everyone a freebie game as an apology?

I don't really agree Sony is making sure the ps3 is enjoyable by people who shelled out the money at launch showing that it was a worthwhile investment will all the games coming out and they are trying to make it so hackers can't ruin the experiance of gamers in the future or pirate, of course Sony's motivations aren't selfless but they don't abuse their customers by ripping them off and hyping and putting out a ton of shovelware like alot of other companies

AND they still lost money with every ps3 sold but they did it for us to have the greatness put 2 and 2 together you get 4

No, they did it following a razor-blades economic model. Sometimes it works (PS and PS2 eras) sometimes it doesn't. They didn't want to give you 400 US$ for free, they wanted to create a critical mass so third parties developed games for their console.
