higher profits are only made when a company increases the gap between the cost of producing a product/service and the price its sold at.

so i consider that another win for sony (users) since their charging us lower. infact ps3's were sold at losses and psn is free. so even though sony are not making a profit, its all good for us.

anyways sales or profits dont matter, its the games that matter and this generation theres a clear winner.

but....i dont want to die =( i want to play the playstation 17

It's kind of hard to hold onto a lead when you are losing by a good few million in Japan. Going up against Sony and Nintendo in the Japanese console gaming market is pretty impossible. Hell the only reason why Sony is in the position they are in in Japan is because Nintendo made a lot of really stupid mistakes with the N64 and allowed Sony to secure a number of key third-party exclusives for the PS1. Nintendo was unstoppable at one point. But their costly mistakes allowed Sega (I think the Saturn actually outsold the N64 in Japan even though Sega pretty much pulled the plug on the Saturn in 1997) and later Sony to take advantage. Timed exclusives of Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean 4 doesn't win you a console war... That doesn't come close to the exclusive third-party library that Sony built up in the mid-late 90s.

The PS3 had Japanese exclusivity of Final Fantasy XIII (1 year timed), Metal Gear Solid 4 and Yakuza 3 and 4. That pretty much sealed the Xbox 360's fate.

i'd agree if this thread wasn't so 2.4 yr's ago

I have to give this guy props for coming up with such a original and unbiased thread.

I"ve thought about this very idea many times. The PS3 had it released the same time as 360 would have a huge lead on it by now. The fact that it is nipping at the heels of the 360 when launching a full year after.... That says it all.

You should have made a thread about it...we can always use more threads like these!

Nah, threads mocking the PS3 as a huge failure, because the Wii which was released at the same time rocketed past the 360 within a year of its release, never go over too well.

Well Nintendo fans like them and at the end of the day that is all that matters.

I was always under the impression that the main purpose of VGC was to piss off Sony fans, whether that amuses Nintendo or Microsoft fans doesn't matter in the end.

That's it, and as they are masochists, are a majority here.

I think everyone here should just yield to the immortal wisdom of the ioi

1.  What about factoring in returns? The PS3 has a 10% failure rate, so !0% of it's sales are replacements. For the Xbox360 it's 30% in it's first 3- 4 years, with many people getting multiple replacements. Are these free replacements counted as sales? Dosen't that scew sales figures?

2.  Didn't MS set aside 1 billion dollars for RROD? Subtract that from the PROFIT made on Xbox360 sales.

Start subtracting
