That would be nice if other companies could develop NFL games. However, with the situation NFL finds itself in now the next Madden might be called Madden 12: Lockout which you assume the role of the owner and beat the crap out of players that try and go into your stadium.

My understanding is that the NFL Players' Association are the ones that made the deal with EA. Thus a company could make a NFL game but can't use NFL players name. Is that correct or was the deal directly through the NFL?

I believe it was straight up the NFL that made that deal, and offered it to EA, who jumped on it. EA had proposed it in the past, and the NFL had refused. NFL put it up for the highest bidder.

As far as the anti-trust side goes, the NFL Players association is looking both at disbanding itself, and also filing an anti-trust lawsuit against the NFL.

Look for prospects of no NBA and no NFL come this fall and winter.
