In the most recent GameInformer they have their usual interview. This month they talked with Ru Weerasuriya about the PSP, the upcoming NGP, Daxter, the two PSP God of War games and the infamous picture of the boxed up PSP dev kits after completing Chains of Olympus and said they were done with developing on the platform.
Well when asked about their first game and how Daxter came to be he said "It became something we didn't expect and I don't think Sony expected it either. The PSP wasn't out yet when we pitched the game and we were trying to figure if it was even possible to replicate a PSone experience on a portable platform, because no benchmark existed. As the months went by, we realized that we were doing alot more than a PSone; it was more equivalent to PS2.... It was a pleasant surprise to find that we could do a lot more than we expected. It went from a small experience to a fill-blown, story-driven platformer."
The following question is asked to My. Weerasuriya about how the team got involved with the God of War franchise and he says,
"That was also a pitch we brought to Sony. The natural thing would have been to move on to Daxter 2. We still talk internally about how awesome it would be to work on a second Daxter. At the time we were working on Daxter, the first God of War came out. We were all playing it at work. We had a conversation about what we should do next and we thought of bringingup the idea of doing a God of War. We pitched it to Sony Santa Monica and they thought it would be a great fit. We weren't sure we could replicate it on PSP. We talked about doing a 2D game, a very different God of War. But we decided that if we did it, it had to be as good as the console God of War. That was what convinced Sony"
He goes on to say that he loves the NGP and won't discuss any projects the Ready at Dawn guys are working on right now, but that he "never says no to a platform".
It looked like they were going to make a Daxter 2 for the PSP, except God of War released on the PS2 and took their attention away. Since they still seem very pumped to make a Daxter 2. I wonder if that is a future project they are working on. I personally would love to see a Daxter 2 and you can't have to much content for a platform. So bring it to the NGP.
P.S. I couldn't find the article online so I typed out the two questions you see above.
