What do you like more, Western or Japanese Oriented games?

Western 36 29.27%

Japanese 87 70.73%

Total:123

I like western and Japanese-oriented games. However I slant more towards Japanese-oriented games. Most of the stuff I play on the Wii, DS and PSP is made by Japanese developers. My Xbox 360 and PS3 gaming is probably a bit more western but I also play a fair bit of Japanese stuff on those platforms. On the PC my gaming is pretty balanced as well. PC gaming isn't very strong in Japan so it's much more of a western-dominant platform (there are a lot of Chinese and Korean games for PC though). But I've played a fair share of visual novels and dating sims (rofl. Seriously. Some of the higher-brow ones have really solid plots that will make you cry man tears. And a lot of the lower-brow ones are so outrageously hilariously fucked up and bad that you can't wait to play and read more) so I'd say my gaming on there is balanced or even Japanese-slanted. I'm not really into PC gaming. I played a lot of Diablo, some Diablo clones (ie. Torchlight), sports management simulation games, that sort of stuff.

The Japanese; all my favorite titles are Japanese plus I just find the style to be more varied.

I guess its western both the games I consider the best and greatest are western games but I love loads of japenese games too. japan difinately holds its own even though its a single nation against many.

correct me if I am wrong
stop me if I am bias
I love a good civilised debate (but only if we can learn something).

Neither. Western games have taken over the RPG market, as they're the only ones really innovating in that market. The Japanese aren't even a factor in FPS games so that's no contest. But when it comes to platformers, the Japanese are still far and away the best. Other genres are a mix depending on what we're talking about at the time. RTS are Western, as are MMOs. Hack n Slash is Japanese, etc.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

i like both of them, but i have to chose western, since the cheesyness of the japanes games are really annoying.

and my favourite games are western, except the MGS saga which is ironicly my favourite saga of all time.

best RPG: fallout 3(i hope the new elder scrolls take this spot)

best FPS: counter_strike

best action_adventure: uncharted series

best sports game: FIFA

best fighting game: mortal kombat

even though mgs and gran turismo are my favs when it comes to racing and stealth.

It says a lot of this site that japanese games are winning.

Western games in general, if we exclude Nintendo. I dislike the whole anime feel of non-Nintendo Japanese games.

"I don't understand how someone could like Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, but not like Twilight!!!"

"Last book I read was Brokeback Mountain, I just don't have the patience for them unless it's softcore porn."

I definitely prefer Western games over Japanese games....mostly because Japanese games are usually quite weird and I really dislike anime which covers a lot of the Japanese games.

In general, Western. Even if I prefer Nintendo consoles and love Nintendo games, my favorite games are largely Western PC games.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.
