Forums - Sony - Likelihood of a PS3 price cut within the next few months?

Sony will not cut the price this year. Why would they? They are selling well enough, they have other incentives to offer, they have a new handheld being released and a bunch of other game related services going into action. A price cut would only take away some well deserved profit. The only way I think they could announce a price cut is if they release a newer model with a smaller hard drive, less expensive components and a slimmer design.

If anything, they'll cut the price next year and they'll probably be happier for it.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Price drop will come when Anonymous tells them to !

September.  But it will like be a $50 cut and not the huge $100 cut people keep talking about.

Given the financial situations of both HD consoles, it doesn't make sense for Sony to strike first. Wait and see if Microsoft drops the 360 price and then respond accordingly. Sony doesn't need to dent their profits unnecessarily at this point. God knows they've been waiting a long time to get the PS3 in the black.

I think that a price cut could really do wonders for the console. Sure, it's going good and I think they should profit from this state for a while. Although, a price cut to 250 of 200 euro's would give it some seriously big boost. But don't forget Sony is about making profit, not about selling the most consoles. If they are making a good profit at this price point and still be popular, I don't see any reason why to cut it. Although to keep sales this good, I think we will see a price cut around the E3. Likely afterwards.
