Forums - Sony - Sony and Geohot reach a settlement

If this was their goal, they should have just done it a long time ago and saved all the legal and court fees.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

1. Geohot walked away without any problems m

2. Sony spent over a million dollars trying to prosecute him

3. Sony lost a customer(who bought quite a few PS3s)

yes, Sony definitely won

a hacker and everyone related or associated with him has been banned from messing with nay and all Sony products forever or he will be fined $10,000 and up to $250,000 if he sheres anything over the net. The haker also kept none of his promises about any settlement having to unclude OtherOS and an Opology.

Sony lost nothing but money from this while Geohot lost his rights relating to any sony product, these so called "rights" that he was alledgidly fighting for... did you even read the settlement?

Yes, Sony kicked his ass.

Wait so he can still use his ps3 to play games?

sony never had an issue with that, Sony got him to do exactly what they wanted. and apparently he is on a boycot sony proucts mode now LOL it makez sony zo zad

I'm still preordering inFAMOUS.  In fact, I might buy a few PSN titles tonight.

its a win for all the artists, developers, techicians, and most importanty legit gamers.

i cant believe some people are shocked by a hacker's lack of principles who had his legal fees paid for. lol

And that's exactly what Geohot is o.o

But be honest here. How would 'legit' gamers be affected either way??

I wish this had been tested in court. It would have been groundbreaking to have a ruling that Sony has no power over the machine's software after they sell it (which is the only result that wouldn't produce chaos).

Same here. I wonder what the full terms of the settlement are also. I dont blame hime for not wanting to take it all the way it was risky. Oh well until next time.

He can always ask for more donations.

Why are you so negatively emphasizing donations towards his cause?  All the leftover donations are put to a charity, btw.

Nope. I picked up what I needed to from the thread. And what was Geohot fighting for in this case? He was the one being sued... the OtherOS case is a completely different case ;)

you apparently missed the freedom fighters rap video!

anywho sony made him look like an idiot after all that talk, and as they wanted in the first place, he will leave sony products alone...sony won.

@Ethomaz

My sidebar lit up awhile back and you were the only new post in the thread. I'm sorry to say but when GT 5 came out, you were really getting on my nerves with your complaining so I blocked you, sorry ^^

If would have costed Sony even more money in the long run when hacking tools are "running rampant" more than they would have been if Geohot hadn't just sold himself out.

But those tools were already there before Geohot, and are still here after Geohot :)

But it helps prevents the encouragement of public distribution (which was the issue to begin with).  Advantage = Sony.
