it makes sense to me, quantics titles do pretty well on the playstation.  think its a win-win for both companies.

Surprised so many are rooting for this.

By percentage, these types of purchases have not worked out well for development houses.  By just odds alone, this would lead to the end of Quantic Dreams as you know it.

Seriously, don't let your Sony loyalty (or hate) lead you to believe this would be a good deal for them.  Stay independent.  Stay free.

Good move by Sony, after Insomniac, they should probably sure up some of their relations with studios.

As with many of these things, it probably makes more financial sense for them to be part of one company

Uhm, what? Insomniac are creating both a new Ratchet & Clank game and a new Resistance, while creating a multiplatform title. What exactly is wrong here?

Quantic Dream should be like Insomniac in this regard. Their freedom means they're free to use whatever tools and platforms they wish to try and further the cause of better, immersive storytelling in videogames, and being bought by Sony is limits what they can do.

Well, it is a spin-off Ratchet and Clank, made by their new studio

They are making Resistance 3 because they had a contract with Sony

And Naughty Dog don't seem too limited

Indeed, and that's just it, the only "limitation" is platform. The ideas, goals, freedoms are still in place working with Sony. I don't see the issue.

That's the greatest thing about Sony.

Naughty Dog wanted to create a new ip, instead of making another Jak game.......(damn you to hell ND and Sony for that btw!)

Sony said sure.

David Jaffe wanted to make a game that was more violent than Twisted Metal. Phil Harrison green lit the project that eventually became God of War. (I miss Phil.....*sad face*)

QD couldn't have finished Heavy Rain without the support Sony gave.

There is a huge, never-ending list of things Sony has done to make their developers happy.

limitations:  QD would only be able to develop on sony platforms.

New Freedoms: much greater economic security allowing them to take bigger risks then they otherwise would be able to afford, open honest and free communication of techniques and code to really push the hardware to the fullest (i.e. ND, GG, Santa Monica, ect.), a parent that is very supportive in greenlighting, developing, and marketing the "arty", "adult", "quirky" type of games QD creates (ICO, SotC, echochrome, jorney, heavy rain, demon souls).

Risks: a culture clash could go terribly wrong.

if QD feels confortable in merging with Sony so that the risk doesn't happen -- the result will be games from QD with a much larger ability to create and innovate the way they want to.  this is why i support a sony/QD merger.

it will be a 'dream' come true..

Can you imagine QD and ND working on a game together??? *drools*

Darn, I was hoping Sony would acquire Sucker Punch first! Acquiring QD certainly wouldn't be a bad thing, but I want SP as a Sony first party so bad! inFAMOUS is just so good!

On a side note...never thought of this before, but why couldn't Sony "buy" Hideo Kojima? Is he "owned" by Konami? Obviously it's not a possibility bc otherwise I'm sure they would've done it already. But I'm just curious as to why it can't happen. The MGS series is a masterpiece, especially MGS4.

Sucker Punch or Insomniac Games would be a much better acquisition.

Insomniac Games ain't happening. But I'm curious, why would either of those be "better" than QD?

From a business stand point, they make much bigger games and can bring in more $$$. Plus, yes Heavy rain was a great game but i think we need to see a bit more from QD before we label them as a great developer in the standing with other 1st party Sony devs. In my opinion ofcourse. I agree that aquiring Sucker Punch and IG is a better acqusition. Atleast till we see what QD has up thier sleeves with thier next game.
