Thanks for the recommendations and the advice regarding the Gold account. And I didn't know about using your gamertag on another 360 (and I have several friends with 360s), so that's a brilliant wee extra. Thanks. |
your welcome hope you enjoy your 360

Have you got Move? I'd be interested to read how Kinect Sports compares to Sports Champions. I'm quite a fan of the latter. Your recommendations re. Live seems solid to me. As it stands, I'm thinking a single Live account (or maybe two -- one for my wife and one for me) may be best for the whole family, compared to the four PSN accounts that we have (each racking up their own trophies). Do you have any recommendations there? As for Joy Ride, I think my eldest would quickly get annoyed if the controls are dodgy (she really likes ModNation Racers, for example), but my youngest, only being four, wouldn't care either way. If the game is good, I'll pick it up. But, if it's just a bit of silly fun that quickly frustrates I'll avoid it, I think. Thanks for dropping in with your recommendations. |
Yes, I have Move. The difference I'd say is for sports Move feels more precise and there's more of a sense of competition, whereas Kinect Sports feels more fun and a little looser. I think both are good and I'm sure your family would enjoy Kinect Sports.
As I see it so far Move is very good for anything involving a raquet or holding something (surprise surprise) and Kinect is very good for stuff that works of your whole body.
Also, I'd avoid Joy Ride give your comments as I think you'd dislike it like I would. It's awful next to say Modnation Racers (which my kids love, too).
If you wanted to be really picky, then on my experience the titles that work (would work) best Move/Kinect are:
Move
Kinect
BTW if you have Sky you can set up your 360 (with Live account) to stream Sky channels you have to your 360, which can be useful if its in another room from your Sky Box. I don't use it much myself but my kids do sometimes and they say it works well when they 360 is in their room.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I'm sure I will. There's certainly a lot for to to consider in terms of what we'll buy or pick up from LoveFilm. Thanks, again.

Thanks. That's exactly the sort of recommendation I was looking for. I'll have a scout around to see if I can see the game on the cheap anywhere.

That all makes sense to me, and is largely what I had come to believe was the case. Basically, one is good for 'games' and the other is good for 'experiences', if I'm to paint with a ridiculously wide brush stroke to portray a fairly complicated situation. Perfecto.

Nice feature, but no Sky here unfortunately.
Again, thanks for all the opinions. Very useful.

Y'know, I've been thinking about that. I was previously happy to try this out with Move (assuming it is still being released on PS3), but I think it will probably be better on Kinect.

Y'know, I may very well do that, though the 360 won't be arriving for another week yet. :(

How is Kinect Sports? Do you (or anyone else) know how it compares to Sports Champions (the Move game -- I have that already)? If it's recommended enough, I'll certainly pick it up. Sports Champions, for example, is a brilliant little game. |
The only good Kinect games you don't already own are Kinect Sports and Your Shape. Your Shape is a fitness/workout game similar to Wii Fit, but just SO MUCH better. It's my personal favourite Kinect "game" and easily the best fitness/workout game out there, and from a technical point of view I'd say it's even the best showcase for the Kinect hardware.
Kinect Sports is the most successful Kinect game and just everyone seems to love it, so you probably won't regret buying it. I actually seem to be the only exception, because I own Wii Sports Resort and Sports Champions as well and with those in mind, Kinect Sports completely failed to impress me. First of all I think the selection of sports is... well, "unfavorable": Four of the six sports in the game are hand-/arm-centric (table tennis, bowling, volleyball, boxing). These sports are better with a handheld motion controller like the Wii Remote or the PS Move, because they have less lag and are much more precise and accurate. Personally, I would always choose the Wii/PS Move counterparts of those sports if I wanted to play them. Of the two sports remaining, the hurdles race had me bored almost instantly. Football however seemed really nice! Leg tracking is Kinect's big strength, so football was a very good decision. The only problem was that I have problems with my knee, and after a single game of football my knee already hurt so bad I had to stop. Bad luck...
Since you specifically asked for a comparison with Sports Champions, I think they are very different. Sports Champions is all about precision and accuracy, while Kinect Sports is all about being easily accessible and forgiving to not frustrate the casual players it's targeting at.
Table tennis is a good example, since it's in both games: The Sports Champions version is very picky about the player's motions, especially in the harder difficulty levels. If you don't do the motions accurately, you probably won't even hit the table. Hold the bat slightly different and the ball will behave different. Kinect Sports table tennis on the other hand can be best compared to Wii Sports tennis: The actual motion seemed almost irrelevant, as long as I did any motion in the right moment everything was fine.
So it's very simply and doesn't have much depth, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun with it. Just remember how much fun people had with the original Wii Sports Tennis despite the fact that it was just waggle controls. Just like Wii Sports, I think Kinect Sports is best when played casually with people who've never played it before and who usually don't even play video games (for example a party with chicks or a family evening with grandma, parents, uncle etc. around).

Is your shape really that good?
Currently we use EA Sports Active on PS3, and it's alright. Have you tried that? Do you have any idea how they compare? I feel no desire to immediately buy another fitness game, but if Your Shape is that good, I'm more than willing to be persuaded.

Hmm. Now I'm not so sure about it. My youngest will certainly appreciate an easy game as you describe, but my eldest has kinda grown used to the precision of Move. I think I'll only pick it up if I spot it on the cheap -- that seems to make most sense to me.
Thank you very much for dropping in. That was some very useful info.
