This November, Bethesda Game Studios is sending us back to the Empire of Tamriel, this time to the northernmost region of Skyrim. Needless to say, this has us as giddy as a kid at Christmas. We can't wait to get our hands on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim! To steel ourselves for the seven month wait ahead of us, we’ve gone back and started playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion again… from scratch.
Undoubtedly, Oblivion was a gorgeous game for its era. In fact, it was the first truly next-gen console title. Going back and playing it now, it is amazing how well it has held up over the last five years. That being said, the once brilliant texture work and sweeping vistas are now rather commonplace and even far surpassed by most contemporary adventure games.
This gave us an idea: Why not compare the choicest Oblivion screenshots and the first captures released by Bethesda for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim? The resulting comparison reveals the graphical evolution of a great franchise.
