As I pass by the cantina, the smells of alcohol and food turn my stomach. I still can’t get the image of the defenseless princess out of my head. I don’t bother taking my usual route home, taking the shortcut through the infamous slums is fine as I’m probably only a dead man walking anyways as these people seem to want to take care of the weak ones first. I don’t care about the risks, dying at the hand of thugs in an alley would be a sweet death compared to what is awaiting me.

These streets are badly lit and mostly empty. There are a few drunkards laying on the floor and over there one in the middle of the street. As I get nearer to him he appears bigger than I initially perceived. He looks like a big fur ball.

He doesn’t seem to move at all. As I get closer, I understand why, he has a large hole in his chest, but that hole is odd, it’s much too large for a blaster. Something catches my eye in a dark corner. It’s a blaster. This is puzzling, I’ve already seen it, at least I think so, but what is it doing here? In any case this can always be useful to me and no one will be missing it.

“Well I guess it can’t be helped; there are things you should not have seen.”

The familiar voice makes my heart jump, I flipp arround. It takes me a second to recognize him.

“Chancellor Palpatine! You frightened me for a second… but what are you doing here?”
“Just exercising a bit my dear friend, but it seems that I will have to get my hands dirty.”
“What do you mean by this? No… don’t tell me you… the wookie…and that hood, I recognize it from the meeting earlier!”

Hearing this I raise the blaster I found but a minute ago. I’m too slow, lightning pours out of his hands and enters my body, the pain is excruciating. I fall to the ground unable to fight back. He takes a step towards me, a large smile on his face. He enjoys seeing my pain and his laughter is unbearable. The blaster slips out of my hand, I can no longer control even my fingers. Am I going to die?
A high pitched noise and the shadow in front of me falls forward onto my legs. He has a small hole burned through his skull. I’m hurt, but alive. There is no more sound, only the thud of bloodflow in my ears. I’m alive.
