@rocketpig: The iPod Nano 6th gen is quite gimmicky.

How so? It's a small device that plays music. I don't think they really NEEDED to add multi-touch but it definitely doesn't detract from the device, as it allowed Apple to make it much smaller and still display coverflow and other stuff without also needing to add physical buttons to it. While I think it may have been a little unnecessary, there are definite benefits to adding multi-touch, which doesn't make it gimmicky, just superfluous in the eyes of some people.

But it still is a very impractical device which does about nothing for the user experience. When you make a device that small, it's usually for a practical purpose. The lack of buttons is one of the mayor letdowns.

The user rating for the device is pretty low, and there are a lot of complaints about it.
Even Apple can go wrong. Like the iPod shuffle with no buttons. The lack of physical buttons on such small devices is quite impractical.
On the other hand, I will admit that other Apple devices are funcitonal and do what they are supposed to, like the iPod Touch. Then again, I don't know much about Apple products on a technical level.

I won't argue that they may have made a tactical error with the device's design. My only problem is the use of the word "gimmicky". The choice to go with no face buttons was a space-saving one. Was it the right choice? Maybe not, but it's not gimmicky because there was a distinct reason to go with that design.
Whereas at this point, 3D is pretty much 100% gimmicky unless it's being used for gaming. When in a UI, it doesn't improve the device at all and in some cases, could actually make it quite a bit worse.
