The fear will only stick if Sony wins the current lawsuit. If they lose, it'll be back to business as usual for hackers. This is assuming they didn't already rattle the hornets nest.

That said, good for Sony. I don't think Sony's made the best decisions recently in their fight against piracy, but this method of securing the system is A-OK in my book.

That didn't take long to fix considering there were those who jumped to the conclusion that PS3 security is so done and broken that SCE will simply have to start over with an early release of the PS4, or openly declared there was "no way" to fix or change the security system.

In retrospect, that was probably about as intelligent as those who parroted "the PS3 is unhackable" without an indepth understanding of how the security system even worked.

In regards to firmware 3.6, while I can't speak from the perspective of someone who enjoys cracking firmware security out of the curiosity that comes from a problem solving challenge, I'm not sure I see the point why anyone would even bother with the new update.

I would imagine that as long as there is a way to keep 3.55 working on PSN and or skip firmware updates for new games that require it, that time would be better spent updating custom 3.55 firmware until SCE finds a way to detect and lock out systems with modified firmware.

Lol, you can feel the guy fear of being sued.

Lol, I feel it, too.  I'm glad Sony was able to strike that fear in them, at least in terms of distributing their methods and tools.  And even if Sony loses the lawsuit against Geohot (hope they don't) maybe people will be happy enough with CFW 3.55 and won't even try to hack the new security put in place.  I doubt that, though, since they weren't happy with what Sony had already given them.  I mean really the only thing you couldn't do with PS3 in its original state was run pirated SW.  But you did have region free games and Linux support.  Of course, even if all the other PS3 hackers do say they are satisfied with 3.55, I'm sure Geohot will try just for the fame.

I find it funny that you guys think a lawsuite is gonna stop hackers, it didn't with the origional Xbox, it hasn't stopped people from pirating all forms of media, and it won't here. The hacks may be a little more hush hush, but they will happen. mark my words.

"with great power, comes great responsibility."

Looks like a whole lotta win for Sony lately.

1. They're able to obtain the ip addresses they sought for.

2. They win the court case against LG.

3. And they finally re-hack proof the PS3 again.

I'm liking all the good news lately regarding Sony and their recent issues. It puts me at ease knowing that my online experience won't be hindered by dumbass hackers  :)

3. For how long?

I find it hard to beilive that your online experiance was ever "hindered" by hackers (who likely are smarter than most of the members on this site) to any real degree.
