something that wasn't mentioned here yet:
- the 40GB uses quite a lot less power than the prior versions (about 60 watts less)
- it produces less heat and therefore usually runs more quiet ,than the other versions of the PS3

Ubuntu. Linux for human beings.
If you are interested in trying Ubuntu or Linux in general, PM me and I will answer your questions and help you install it if you wish.

| lightbleeder said: I wanted a Wii but as they are sold out so I will buy a PS3. I'm planning to buy a 40GB PS3 but I have a doubt. Are there other differences between the 80GB and 40GB PS3s than: - The 40GB difference - Motorstorm - PS2 compatibility ?????????? Please help!

Congrats! You'll love it...I love mine.
Anyhow, if you're not concerned with the HD space (you can always use an external HD or upgrade your internal) & don't mind thelack of backwards compatability, then I would pick up the 40GB. Only other real difference is USB ports & Memory card slot.....and Motorstorm which you can pick up used for cheap if you really want it.
My PSN: is Sorrow880
Have fun & pick up Warhawk for sure!
CoD4 is a lot of fun too.
Well, I now only have access to a PS3 & 360...Plan on buying a wii soon (lol, if I can ever find one available!) but will probably wait until some of the major RPG's come out like Dragon Quest & Tales, etc.
Anyhow, I'm so far behind in games to play that I'm not in a huge hurry (lol, haven't even gotten a chance to finish God of War II yet!)
| lightbleeder said: Thing is I think the X360 is unreliable, and I'm very interested in MGS4 and FF13. Besides I don't wanna pay for online play. |
The newer 360's are a lot more reliable than the old. As far as online play is concerned, if $50 a year is too much, then I can't fault you for not wanting the 360. On the other hand, there's nothing like a Halo 3 frag-fest online.

Since the first day my friend, the very first day...
hehe, the guys question was difference in 40gb, 80gb let the man be, he wants a PS3 get over it, team. =)
| lightbleeder said: Ok maybe I got things wrong. Doesn't the PS3 support third party USB hard drives? |
of course you can plug any USB hard drive, you can also stream an ethernet drive if you got one.
with my PS3 i'm streaming (wireless) a 320 gb ethernet drive, the only thing which sucks is I cannot make my own playlists for the time being as the music has to be on the ps3 hard drive to make playlists, I hope they improve the network functions like access to network printers for example
