The game scored 84 with not many mixed scores and no negatives at all. After 5-6 years of hype, thats pretty fucking good. I'd like to see Forza or NFS pull that off :p

There were the odd negative reviews, mostly from people who fell victim to the hype, couldn't temper their expectations, and nitpicked the hell out of the game.

And really, to be fair, GT5's been consistently updated, and now it's a better game than when it was released. More patches are still to come. The 84 score does not do the game justice, not when it first released, and especially not now.

According to the score from Meta atleast ^^,
16 Mixed
66 Positive
0 Negatives

The horror!  How could the masses stand such an atrociously bad game!  Lol, the criticism really made it sound like this game was terrible, when it obviously is not.  It was the hype, which was to be fair Sony's fault to a large degree.

Well, this game flopped.

Seriously though, Sony must be pulling in some major cash from this game.  Prologue probably already paid for almost the entire budget on the game, while the actual game's sales are almost all profit.

no, prologue has already made polyphony and sony tons of profit.

GT5 budget was $60 million. and GT5p sold 5.1 million so even if they only profited $11.77 per GT5p sold they still profited.

but most likely they made aroun $25 per game (its also 1st party so they are no royalty fees or other charges, so they kept a lot of the money) which would mean they had revenue of about $127,500,000, so profit of about $67,500,000

they have been profited like crazy off GT5 and Gt5p.

and when you include GT5 they have sold 6.4 million (to retailers) so thats likely around $40 per game, which would then mean they brought in profit of $256,000,000.

so in all thats around $323,500,000 of profit

edit: this is exactly how much each game has sold, but i dont feel like re-doing the math b/c my numbers were pretty close

TitleUnits (K) *
Gran Turismo 10,850
Gran Turismo 2 9,370
Gran Turismo 3 A-spec 14,890
Gran Turismo Concept Series 1,560
Gran Turismo 4 "Prologue" 1,400
Gran Turismo 4 11,190
Gran Turismo 5 "Prologue" 5,200
Gran Turismo PSP 2,320
Gran Turismo 5 6,370
Total 63,150

So that's a minimum of 8m lifetime! A minimum! And the PS3 hasn't sold nearly as much as the PS2 when GT4 launched!

Very nice numbers.

Nevertheless i have to add that imo:

Every hardcore-GT fan already bought a PS3 and the bigger userbase of PS2 was probably contaminated by casual-players now playing Wii,DS etc and uninterested in playing a car-simulator like GT.

So i predict GT5 to sell comparable to GT4, regardless of PS3 HW numbers.

Just wanted to point it out.

Exactly what a lot of Sony and GT fans said a long time ago as a reason to why the game would sell 10M... i agreed from the beginning.
