Forums - Microsoft - Kinect has a rosy future - THQ

CVG

The blistering start made by Kinect since launching on the market is not likely to significantly slow down any time soon, according to THQ.

The publisher's CEO Brian Farrell told the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference yesterday that augmented reality and voice recognition would lead to new "play patterns" that developers can take advantage of.

THQ claims that its own Fantastic Pets - which launches on 360 next month - will be the first game to combine augmented reality and Kinect.

He commented: "The great thing about Kinect - and why I think why it's going to continue to be successful and where we can even get better - is ease of user interface. Voice commands; people who aren't gamers love walking in on 'play game', 'turn on level'.

"The fact that to a lot of non-gamers there's no giant controller, 'what button do I push?' I think there's a lot of new play patterns that can be explored on the Kinect and that's the exciting thing about it.

He added: "I think we're just starting to figure out what we can do with it. Augmented reality is a real opportunity on the Kinect as a consumer experience. Between augmented reality, user interface and just new play patterns, we think the Kinect will have a very successful future.

He added: "[For developers] it's more about new ideas and new creative than new tech. Ideas aren't expensive, tech is. What we love about it is they're not expensive to develop, it's just a matter of coming up with the right idea, the right creative."

Around the Network

THQ have been in the spotlight quite often lately!

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

"I think we're just starting to figure out what we can do with it."

"[For developers] it's more about new ideas and new creative than new tech. Ideas aren't expensive, tech is. What we love about it is they're not expensive to develop, it's just a matter of coming up with the right idea, the right creative."

This is what the haters just don't get, because they don't have any vision.  All they see is something so different than what they are used to that they want it to fail (or because it's an MS endeavor).

Call me crazy, but I think this stuff is helping to, not only save gaming, but grow it up.  I still think the holedeck is the ultimate gaming experience and Kinect is the next logical step toward that distant (?) reality.

Indeed it does have quite a good future.
