Forums - Gaming - Transformers. Why did no one roll out to get this???

Im bringing up another game that i felt did not get its just due.  This time its an Hd game though. War for Cybertron, the one actually decent Transformers game in... well ever and it didnt do to hot. WTF happened??? This game was actually good oh sure the campaign was short and the environment was murky, but it was Cybertron and the story was at least coherent, unlike some big games ive played recently. THe online was actually pretty good with different classes and whay have you (could have had more maps)and they had a cool co-op survivor mode. The only thing i thought sucked was their was no local co-op. that was some BS. What really upsets me is that the damn movie tie ins did better, those games genuinely sucked and we all know that they were made to cash in on little kids who get caught in the hype of the lastest dose of Bayhem. It came out in the summer there wasnt no big game around its release that I can think of, not like S&P star successor would stifle its sale. IMHO this game had the makings of a hit, good online, gameplay was decent, you shot things, story was like Transformers Begins, hell it was better than the movies. I could see why the Wii game failed, Activision straight up ripped Wii owners off with that, but HD gamers what happened???

I felt the same way. I'm the only person I know who got the game, and I got it because I thought the demo was fantastic. Though the lack of local split screen was a HUGE blow. I almost returned it because of that. I got it to play with friends, but since none of them bought it, I bearly got to play it.

Target Audience. This is something too many studios forget to really analyze before creating a game.

Transformers is a mass consumer IP, not a core gamer IP. FPS or not, the game itself did not appeal to the gamer segment that is the predominate owner of HD consoles.

Had they not gimped the fuck out of the Wii version and advertised in mass consumer media vs gaming centric media, the game would have sold far better.

I don't buy Shooters on my PS3 because I don't like dual analog. I would have bought it on my Wii had it not been so gimped. Now, I just wait for Battlefield 3 on my PC and passed on the best Transformers game to date. I actually love Transformers as well, so I was pretty let down at what became the final product available.

EDIT: It would have helped if both HD systems had the demo too. I didn't even get to try it out.

@badgenome  theirs a sequel, oh happy day. what website or link, por favor???

@superchunk  Wii didnt even get gimped version they got a completly different game, thats the tradegy.  Dont really agree that it would have done much better on Wii. the other movie tie ins didnt do that much better on Wii and at least those were all the same game for the most part. You dont like dual analog?? thats cool but you could have gotten it for the PC and it wasnt an FPS BTW

If Wii version had the same game (granted lower visuals) and advertised in mass media, it would have done well. @FPS mention, I just meant shooter in general. I didn't get the PC version as I expected not many would so the online would be boring. However, had there been a PS3 demo so I could check it out, I may have bought the PC version anyways.

those other Transformers games were the same across the board and it got some adverisment( at least the first one) and the Wii version still lagged behind. Why would you think this game would have ended up differently

better idea... A Beast Wars game!!!   two reasons...colours...interesting characters.

frankly i dont think saying "its cybertron"  is any sort of real excuse for the game.

Unfortunately, we need a an EXTREMELY  talented director  to make a "good" game out of the concept.

I'm a huge fan, if a DVD could be worn out, my box sets would be raw.

I liked it okay, but I'm glad I only rented it.

Lack of local co-op was a pain in the ass.

Because it sucked. I got it for free and it still didn't like it at all. When they're much better games out, you tend to forget and be underwhelmed by the not as good ones...
