Forums - Gaming - the PS3 is beating the 360. THE WII IS UNPHAZED AND MAINTAINS MARKET SHARE!

2008 will be "LBP and MGS4" versus "360 price cut". If MS doesn't cut the price expect the PS3 to rapidly gain ground.

Also, LBP is very much a wildcard. I think it'll be a big hit. I don't think there's any real chance it'll flop, but a small success would be just as bad for the PS3's fortunes. On the other hand it could also become "OMG system seller!"

While LBP appears to be an amazing game, there is no real reason to believe that it will be able to break through any better than the PS3's other new IPs.  The main advantage for the PS3 is the brand loyalty of many PS2 owners who have not yet jumped to the next generation.  The software for the two systems appears roughly equal for 2008, so the only real advantage the 360 has is going to be the price. I think that Sony likely never wanted to cut the PS3 price so soon, let alone twice, so I suspect they will be very reluctant to drop prices in the first half of 2008. The 360 is likely to finally turn MS a profit this year (it would have last if not for the RROD), and with the Falcon chipset and 2+ years on the market they should be able to enact a significant price cut (at least $75 per model). While Sony might be able to match it, it would seriously cut into their own bottom line. So either MS would reclaim some of its market share, or it would kick it's main rival in the wallet. Either way it wins with a price cut.
