I don't understand how people like the OP get away with so much trolling against Sony. It's baffling.

You really are not helping yourself here, neither are you gaining any ground in favor of Sony. I assume you didn't even check out what this organization is, did you? Blabbing your mouth off is a lot easier, isn't it?
Edit: Just for the record, throwing a lawsuit against a organization like this is pure idiocy, it won't achieve anything. The information was out before EFF published it. Trying to shut them up is more and more closer to the censorship by Sony than anything else. You do understand this, right? They're trying to take away the freedom to gain and share information. One of those constitutional rights that most people are so proud of.

I don't care how long you've been around, and I don't care what you do. No establishment is perferct. This is just typical Sony demonizing (or any company for that matter) on this site. We all have mission statements, we all have some kind of defined purpose sometimes "evolving." Do we carry them all out perfectly. Nope. Never idolize something imperfect just because it works in favor of what you're against. It clouds the perception.

And calling people "extremely childish" and "uneducated" leads to your credibility?

Actually that is the name they have always gone by. Without them there would be no such thing as security. The term hacker is a label come up with after the fact for various actions those people choose to use. Most people you would label a "hacker" though is little more than a kid using scripts someone else created. In this case you are blaming Geohotz for the actions of others when he was simply poking at a machine he legally bought. So to summatize in the style of your cohort: you are saying someone should have legal repricussions for using a device he legally owns? Or are you saying corporations have the legal right to dictate what your actions should be with your own property?

We could go back and forth about this all day. Sony is a company that has to protect their assets and their security has been breached. And on the other side you have ppl who own physical property and have to the right to do with it as they see fit. I'm not arguing consumer rights here, I agree with you. But where exactly is the line drawn, at what point do you believe the companys have the right to fight back? Instead of just saying Sony is wrong and there are other ways, tell me what do you suggest would be a better course of action for them to take?

Does your position of discrediting this organization just because you believe reality to be "different" make you any more credible in this argument than me? Please, you're being irrational.
You lost this argument the moment you decided to attack my view of the PS3 community instead of concentrating on the real topic, that being Sony attacking an innocent organization for something it shouldn't be.

I have mixed feelings about "security researchers" ...
While some legitimately use publication as a last resort to get large companies to act on their security flaws, more often than not they seek out publication of security flaws for their own gain.

I NEVER discredited th EFF. Do not put words into my mouth to push a false agenda. Please be rational.

I think you are being extremely childish for taking things for face value. "They said it! I believe it! You're wrong! I'm right! Just because they said so!" Yep.
Now, i don't want to nit-pick, but these are your words. What you imply here is nothing else that EFF is not carrying out their mission, but have some other, hidden.
For all intents and purposes, you discredited them as an organization. Sure you can have your opinion but the fashion in which you present it makes you seem just content with lumping everything and everyone into the same category. And that was the whole point of this conversation anyway since I believe that is the wrong thing to do.
