Forums - Sony - Sony's latest attack on customer freedom

Will we see everyone praise these hackers when there favorite online game is unplayable because of hackers?

Everyones looking at the one thing in this case. They think Hackers are fighting for our rights. Clueless to the fact that when people bought the consol they bought it for the experiance and games Sony said it would bring them. Not for homebrew and not for piracy.

Trophies will soon be ruined thanks to Hackers, Online games will soon be flooded with invincible people thanks to hackers and your favorite gaming franchises have half the chances of getting sequels now because of piracy and its all thanks to these hackers.

Hackers fighting for our rights??? Get the fuck out of here, weres my right to play games fairly that I spent 60 bucks on???

Anyone whos on the side of these hackers seriously doesn't have a clue on what damage could be caused with all this. They think they'll get to save a few bucks and pirate some games on the sly except this whole hack Sonys trying to stop does much more than allow pirated games, it ruins legitimate peoples experiance.

About EFF

From the Internet to the iPod, technologies are transforming our society and empowering us as speakers, citizens, creators, and consumers. When our freedoms in the networked world come under attack, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is the first line of defense. EFF broke new ground when it was founded in 1990 — well before the Internet was on most people's radar — and continues to confront cutting-edge issues defending free speech, privacy, innovation, and consumer rights today. From the beginning, EFF has championed the public interest in every critical battle affecting digital rights.

Blending the expertise of lawyers, policy analysts, activists, and technologists, EFF achieves significant victories on behalf of consumers and the general public. EFF fights for freedom primarily in the courts, bringing and defending lawsuits even when that means taking on the US government or large corporations. By mobilizing more than 61,000 concerned citizens through our Action Center, EFF beats back bad legislation. In addition to advising policymakers, EFF educates the press and public.

EFF is a donor-funded nonprofit and depends on your support to continue successfully defending your digital rights. Litigation is particularly expensive; because two-thirds of our budget comes from individual donors, every contribution is critical to helping EFF fight — and win — more cases.

This bit is from the sued organizations web page. Somehow i think that you guys are being extremely childish in naming just about anyone a hacker/thief/whatever. These people have nothing in common with hackers. The arguments that are being used on this forum by PS3 users or fans only shows that you agree with the notion that you do not own any hardware you buy, you only bought the license to use it.

But then again, most people are just uneducated, so whatever, right?

If i lose access to this profile as well....I'm done with this site.....You've been warned!!.....whoever you are...

Happy Wii60 user. Me and my family are a perfect example of where hardcore meets casual and together mutate into something awesome.

I think you are being extremely childish for taking things for face value.  "They said it!  I believe it!  You're wrong!  I'm right!  Just because they said so!"  Yep.

"computer security researchers" - so that's the term hackers go by these days is it?

My thoughts exactly, not like the article sounds biased or anything right?

Actually that is the name they have always gone by. Without them there would be no such thing as security. The term hacker is a label come up with after the fact for various actions those people choose to use. Most people you would label a "hacker" though is little more than a kid using scripts someone else created. In this case you are blaming Geohotz for the actions of others when he was simply poking at a machine he legally bought.

So to summatize in the style of your cohort: you are saying someone should have legal repricussions for using a device he legally owns? Or are you saying corporations have the legal right to dictate what your actions should be with your own property?

YES WE ARE ALL FED UP OF EVERYONE TRYING TO JUMP ON THE BANDWAGON AND TRYING TO KILL SONY....

seriously get a life ppl, don't you realise that lots of us are actually suffering because of hackers and pirates and the people responsible, this is not the ps2 days anymore where you did it just for the games, at least they never had access to your information or the ability to delevel you on a game, this is the modern age ppl, and i for one someone is finally standing up against it, and what do we get as a result oh big bad SONY, typical, just typical

My thoughts exactly. Yeah blame Sony for everything just because you don't like the company.

I don't know why Sony is stuffing around with courts and lawyers. Why don't they just send Kratos after them?

They're not stuffing in courts, they're stuffing in channels Remember?

OT: While Sony brought this on themselves, this article is incredibly stupid.

Computer Security Researchers? I should have stopped reading there.

I don't care what anyone says, posting the hack for everyone to see is inexcusable.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Um, the EFF has been around for a bit now you realize that right? It is not some fly-by-night company that happened to pop-up when the PS3 was hacked. They have been fighting the good fight to make sure you own the electronics you buy for some time now. So yes, he is right on that one. Not just because they said so though.

So you position is what exactly? We should not hold Sony accountable for their own actions? There are solutions to the script kiddies running wild on the PS3 right now. The PC has been way more open, and for way longer. Still companies have found ways to keep official servers secure, and, in the case of MW2 interestingly enough, create a private match making system that also does not let anyone de-level you.
