From the technical point of view it's way better than the first one, but the story and characters are horrible in my opinion. Avan is just a pale shadow of Welkin (and it has this horrible laugh n the english version), Cosette is nothing but Mary Sue 101, most of the secondary characters are terrible wasted (Rene showing her femenine side with .. laundry,Inghild story was pointless, Vicky is just a cheap mixture between Kaolla Su and Ed from Cowboy Bebop, etc.) also the story is not really that good you can predict a lot of things from far away (There's a School Festival, what a surprise)

Anyway it's my favorite game from last year but the general direction of the story is not my taste. Valkyria III artwork looks much better and more closer to the first game.

What does Gakuen mean?

Gotcha.

That does sound even more derivative than the original VC's plot and characters, but I wouldn't know as I don't own VC2.

Probably how i'll think of it as well. The Last Story so far is not appealing to me like most people.

Do I think it will be good? Oh yeah

Do I think that people are over exaggerating it? For damn sure

Dragon Age Origins almost got as good of a score as The Last Story???  Go Bioware!
