Forums - Sony - Jack Trentton comments on Activisions PS360 pricing comments.

Sounds like whoever did this interview likes this site too...

Q: Do you guys have any projections of what you expect to sell this holiday season?

A: Sure. We expect to sell 33 million pieces of hardware across the three platforms. And that breaks out to 12 million PS 2s, 11 million PS 3s, and 10 million PlayStation Portables, and then we don’t break out software, but our forecast is 250 million units of software across those three platforms.

Q: And are those worldwide numbers, and that’s shipping numbers, is that right?

A: Worldwide numbers, and they’re sales, not shipment numbers.

Q: OK, but sales meaning that’s how many you get into consumers’ hands? Or does that mean you consider it a sale when it goes to a retailer?

A: We consider it a sale when it goes to a consumer.

Q: And that is for March 31?

A: That is correct.

Q: So Jack, that’s not Christmas numbers, that’s year-end numbers.

A: That’s correct. By the end of our fiscal, March 31, ‘08.

Zucas, if you think that Activison are even thinking about droping support over this you are insane.

Without making their games multiplatform Activision will not be the biggest 3rd party developer. Are Activision prepared to lose no1 status to try and make a point to Sony? Dropping PS3 support is dropping PS2 support as well since Sony decide what goes on their platform and what doesn't.

Activisions revenue/profit would take a severe cut in them trying to make a point...

It goes to show though that Sony don't give a f*** about Activision. They would NEVER say that to Konami/S-E.

That doesn't defeat the point that that ape Tretton needs to shut the fuck up. Cause limited support is almost the exact same thing as no support. Ask the Gamecube haha.

Please stop with the name calling.

Somehow I doubt Jack Tretton will take offense, especially since he's not here.

Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii will be at $199 within 1 year.

For Xbox 360, thats $279 down to $199, ($80 price drop for 1 year).
For the Wii, its $249 to $199 (down $50 for the first time, by then, 2 years...in fact, they would already be there, except for being sold out, there is no need).

If Sony cannot match that in ONE YEAR, then Sony won't be the mainstream system.

If they cannot be in 2 years...well, still its the same, they won't be mainstream. They will be profitable I think, and a solid 3rd choice.

You never know^^. But seriously you get less credibility that way.

Also interesting stuff.

LBP on time for the Beta.

Says Sony has more 1st party development teams then Nintendo (News to me.)

Maybe he was just taking a run at Halo though since he said "we arn't dependent on any 1 title."

Well if my posts are ruined by calling Jack Tretton, not a member of this site, an ape, which is a very mild insult compared to others, then that is quite saddening.

But if yall are really that dissappointed in it, I apologize to Mr. Tretton.  Guess it's not his fault he has to work for Sony PR.  Got to put food on the table.

Outside of market value, they are a bigger company than Nintendo.

You should disconnect your internet and not reconnect it before you learn to discuss things in a mature manner without petty immature insults. Grow up.

Activision drop Sony support and by gens end they will not be top 3rd party publisher because they simply will not get enough sales. Activison cannot say whatever they like to whoever they like and think that others are just going to accept it. Sony are right, Activision should make their own platform and then they will find out that it ain't that easy...

I'll take that bet. Nintendo Wii I can see it, but I don't see it probable at all. Why lower the price if you're still selling out? The only other reason would be to match their competitors, and the won't even go that low because:

The lowest the 360 will go is $229 within the next year. I still find it probable to only hit $250 though.
