This one has been out since august.  I don't think it is a sign of a new xbox.  I'm not sure why the new dpad was needed.  Fighting games I think.

Well I wouldn't assume that they'd make a console to go along with it. I mean didn't they make pink controllers and blue controllers?  Besides like others here have pointed out, they already have a silver one and it is indeed badass. 

And if I were you, I'd be on the lookout for a slammin' Gears themed slim this fall. I think that would earn more jizz from a Gears fan like you than just a Halo or plain silver console no? I'm callin' it, a Gears slim announced at E3 to get the fans all amped. 

as much as i like gears i would actually prefer a normal white/black/grey console. I do agree we will see a gears 3 bundle. I'll probably ge ta slim if my 360 breaks.

Wouldnt it just look like a DVD player / toaster if they made it silver? O.o same as the silver ps3 looked even more like a grill than the normal one and the wii...well the wii looks like a lunch box no matter what colour it is....
