Forums - Gaming - A new perspective for FPS.

Alot ppl say they are sick of ww2 fps, with cod5 apparently going back to this setting. I dont care that much myself, I much prefer fps with real life guns as opposed to sci-fi fps with stupid over the top guns.

But what Iam so very sick off, is that all fps are from the perspective of americans etc, I wanna play game where I can play as the other side. It would be good to be killing americans as apposed to american killing other people.

A modern warfare game set Iraq, but you get to play as the insurgents. There would be lots of good scenarios, for example you get set up a ambush an american convoy with ied's and kill as many possible, then plan your get away before their air power comes in. Also sniping, hit and run attacks on large bases, hitting armoured cars with rpg's.

It could bring alot of tactics when you are fighting a force that has better technology, forcing you to plan and use you wits.

Actually, a guerilla tactics game would be pretty fun. Your dream of playing an Iraqi insurgent will never come to fruition, but there are a variety of historical or fictional settings which could offer similar gameplay without the political baggage.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I suppose there's a possibility that Iraq wins this war, then invades and subjugates the Americans, in which case the games will be based from the viewpoint of Iraq. Of course, do you really want this to happen?

Can i mix your idea with Sci-Fi?
That way we can have a game where you play an alien/alien army an invade Earth.

Unfortunately the USA is the biggest market for shooters, and games there pretty much require the US to be the good guys. That's why there are so many WW2 games, as that's the last time they had a clear unambiguous win over an undeniably evil dictator, and made the world a better place. After that it's been all about invading developing countries to stop them from becoming communists or other less exciting reasons, and the outcome has been less than the unconditional surrender of the enemy.

Guerilla warfare would be kind of interesting, but current events might make it just slightly unpopular. Hopefully we'll be seeing more developers from elsewhere on the globe get into the business over the next few years.

Hey Mister Omar, that's supposed to be REGION, not RELIGION.

If you want to learn how to kill Americans, go join a terrorist training camp.

What's the Australian version of the FBI/CIA? They might find this thread interesting...

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

Nah, doesn't sound like nearly as much fun as it is now.

I think I would be more interested in a game similar to Trauma Center except for torturing information out of terrorists like Al-Qaeda, Hezbollah, etc.... You would of course have to keep them alive and carefully extract the information etc...wouldn't want them to die before they give up their friends.

To Each Man, Responsibility

Sinha, what's so surprising about a non-American rather having Americans as the bad guys for once? Of course he'd rather play as the side that he has more in common with. There are probably a bunch of games and movies already on the way that portray the American occupiers in Iraq as selfless heroes, while everyone who doesn't like them is a terrorist or a member of "pro-Saddam militia".

I have to admit I didn't read his first post all that closely, and now that I do it seems a bit questionably phrased even to me. That being said, we could still use some variety, and less of a 100% American viewpoint in every single game.
