Forums - Gaming - How bad is PS3 hacked compared to X360?

Is it more or less or what?

I keep hearing everywhere that this is horrible but when you look at the X360, it's doing just fine.

I guess this is bad if they want to expand in China where Piracy is much higher.

So how bad is it...

Well at this point, I'd say the 360 is way ahead still, the PS3 hacking community is really really young, there is a lot going on though, and it looks pretty likely that there will be a full on custom firmware at some point soon for the PS3.

The PS3 community is really going to explode here in 2011, I think it will actually help move hardware though, and believe it or not, most pirates buy a lot of software too.

no where near the scale of the 360 and light years behind the PC. people on the internet are over exaggerating the situation. an million copies of Call of Duty Black ops for 360 were pirated.

PS3 is no where near it. The only reason its getting attention is because SONY is pulling an faster counter offensive compared to MS who while trying to stop it, they aren't going out of there way like SONY.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

from I have read it is worse than the 360 because of how open it really is. I also heard the new 360 slims are far harder to hack. I could be wrong and do not have the time to look up links. But I think the major issue here is that they got access to the hardware keys so they can essentially make any program look legit on ps3. As far as pirating games the 360 may be worse off, but I think you can get far more access to restricted stuff on the ps3. Keep in mind i could be wrong on all of this.

The PS3 isn't anywhere near the 360 in terms of what they can do right now. You're right that the slims are proving to be troublesome, but honestly, it's super super easy to find a hacked 360, or a hackable 360, so that doesn't have any effect. The PS3 community is expanding fast, I see new stuff uploaded evey day, and in the end it's going to end up being a PSP like situation we as the console is completely open, has a custom firmware, and plenty of homebrew and emulation, etc.

I'm honestly looking forward to the PS3 community maturing, I may actually purchase a PS3 if they get to a point where they run custom firmware.

Hacked almost completely really. But that doesn't necessarily spell out any more trouble for it than it does for the x360, and it certainly isn't catching up with the mere number of pirated game copies on the x360, that's been hacked for years. If Sony can achieve with PSN what MS did with detection on Live (especially something as effective as jtag detection), then the rest doesn't even matter all that much for piracy.

Question is whether they will be able to achieve even that because at this point the PS3 can't tell Sony instructions apart from the hackers'.

In terms of actual access to all sorts of stuff it's open way beyond the x360, but aside from the feared game hacks and cheats, that doesn't really bring anything to the piracy scene, it's stuff like emulators, media players, linux obviously, region-free dvd/bd etc.

edit: or rather "won't bring". There doesn't seem to be all much for it yet, well, code sort of needs to be written. Though emulators are there already.

Xbox 360: The path through the mountain to find a wall segment which is cracked, although this is patroled.

PS3: They have the front gate keys and all the passes they need to get inside.

Tease.

Well hacking and uploading custom software isn't as bad of an problem for SONY, i doubt sony would care much about that. What they do care about is people Pirating games, hacking online games, basically getting anything they get money from for nothing.

At this moment the Pirating is Low but we will see in the future

The PS3 hack has the potential to be much worse. As it is, you can't hack the 360 unless you do a hardware mod, flash the DVD drive etc... Where as the PS3 hack is as simple as plugin in a flash drive. Also, Microsoft seems to have more control over XBL than Sony has over PSN. Having the 'Keys" to the PS3 means that Sony would not even be able to detect if you are running a pirated game or not. Sure, it might have taken longer to hack the PS3, but in the end, it has proven to be the least secure. The fact that they are jumping all over GeoHot tells me that Sony knows they are in deep shit.

Its hacked WAY worse than the 360.  On the 360 your basically swapping out a disc drive and putting in burned games.

On the PS3 its WIDE open and people are going to be able to run any kind of emulator and basically do whatever they want with it.
