Where's all the hate from the Sony haters?  First comment would be:  "THIS IS STAGED!!"

Looks like Microsoft is going to come out with some facial recognition type of games or software.

V:  And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? War, terror, disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the now high chancellor, Adam Sutler. He promised you order, he promised you peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent. Last night I sought to end that silence.

Think in game applications for this kind of tech.  Imagine the Medusa fight from Clash of the Titans where you have to take her out without looking directly at her.  Or having to do an undercover mission that requires you to keep a straight face as you hear about atrocities performed.  Those are just two things that popped up in my non-game developer mind after seeing this.  What do you think Kojima has cooking?

I think that is the point though, Microsoft is still trying to create a games machine. These are games, not real life (not directed at you) some people think that games are real life. Avatars have a sense of stopping that, that is my thoughts on the matter anyway. Plus with the games coming out, ie Kinect Sports, realistic avatars would look out of place.

the possibilities are endless

your medusa idea won't work as we will still have to contrate on screen

a 360 degree screen would be need for that

You're right, the possibilities are many (wouldn't say endless personally due to the obvious limitations) and the simple, immediate application of the tech that we see here are just the tip of the iceberg.

I was thinking more where you have to face her without looking at her face/into her eyes.
