What is the best new Sony ip created this gen?

Motorstorm 1 0.44%

Infamous 11 4.85%

Uncharted 162 71.37%

Resistance 7 3.08%

LittleBigPlanet 36 15.86%

other(specify) 10 4.41%

Total:227

Uncharted excluding LBP becuase Sony aquired it and didn't create it.  But LBP is my overall favourite new IP closely followed by Uncharted.  But being strict I can't count it fairly.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Around the Network

In fact, examples of Sony created new IPs include...

Uncharted, Motorstorm, The Last Guardian, Sports Champions

Demon's Souls, inFAMOUS, Resistance are Sony owned, but 3rd party developed.

They are still Sony created IP because those third party companies were contracted to develop the games for Sony. So any creative work that they did while developing those games is done on the behalf of Sony.

Nah, not really. To be the creator, you had to have done the handy work. Sony finds the talent, no doubt, but that still doesn't make them the creators of the IP. It's simple really, to be considered the creator, you had to "create" the object in question.

That's like saying Sony created HEAVY RAIN because of their ability to find the talent, and/or give tips on how to perfect the project. In truth, they still didn't create the IP. You can find out easy too, as most devs (even the ones Sony owns) say that "Sony gives them the freedom to create whatever it is they want to create".

Hiring a developer to create a game is the same thing as hiring employees to develop a game. If Sony didn't create Resistance then they didn't create Twisted Metal. David Jaffe created twisted metal.

sony doesnt "hire" developers to make games. they dont go to companies with the new IP and tell them to develop it.

A developer will come to sony with an idea pitch or demo and in return for funding/advertising they develop it exclusively for that platform. developers like sucker punch and eat sleep play etc have an easier time doing this because they have a history with sony.

developers that have history with the company or are very talented can be put under contract to make a certain number of games.

But the IP is 100% created by those development studios not sony. sony can have input in development, they can cancel or greenlight the project, they can increase or decrease budget but whatever they do the IP is not sonys idea.

as an example, sucker punch went to sony with infamous, said we want to develop this for you exclusively if you fund us, sony agrees.

sony most certainly did not come to sucker punch and say "we have this IP called infamous and we want you to develop it"

hope that clears everything up, unless i read your comments wrong, tis late lol

Demon's Souls, hands down.

Uncharted being the second.

Hmm, I voted for Uncharted, but I agree with you, as a new IP, Demon's Souls is more awesome than Uncharted.

But as a series it would be Uncharted.

Around the Network

you have MAG and Modnations as new IP's

man sony has made an few new IP's this gen compared to others still riding the games of last gen and gens before

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

Correct, they didn't. Eat Sleep & Play are not SCE. Sony didn't go these developers, afaik, and say we have an IP we want you to develop. The developer goes to Sony and the freedom is granted to do whatever they want, if a deal is made. Unless Sony is the parent company, Sony didn't create the franchise. Naughty Dog is a branch of SCE, therefore, Uncharted is Sony's created prpoperty, quite different from Resistance, inFAMOUS, & Twisted Metal.

This basic scenario is simple, if you hire me to develop/create a game for you, YOU aren't the creator.

There's one flaw in your post.

Lets take MS's Halo as an example. Bungie made it, published by MS. But bungie is no longer at MS, but since MS owns Halo, they can ask 343 to make a Halo game for them.

If Insomniac completely goes multi-plat tomorrow, and refuses to make resistance anymore, Sony might ask ND to make it for them(just an example). And then it automatically becomes their IP.

So, I think we should include IPs made by third parties but owned by Sony as well. They are, after all owned by Sony, and if they wish, they can easily change the developing teams for it to the first party, they just don't do it.

I have nothing against including 3rd party IPs with 1st party IPs, just re-word the meaning. If it read - "what new IPs has Sony been involved with or put out", that would make more sense. But an IP not created by Sony shouldn't be credited to them as the creators, just because they slapped their name on it and called it their property.

Also, Bungie is the creator of the Halo IP, so no matter how many times MS asks another dev to make a new Halo title, the IP wasn't created by them. This goes for Resistance as well. Even if Naughty Dog were to take over, they didn't create the IP (which snuggles in with my point).

So, in the case of LBP, who made it? Sony or Media molecule?

Uncharted easily... Infamous second and LBP third.

I knows it isn't a new IP. Though I think Killzone deserves a notable mention due to their vast turnaround in quality.
