Forums - Microsoft - MS: "No intention of abandoning core"

CGI-Quality said:

Well that's good to know, but it's really a no-brainer. They won't just give up the very market that put the 360 where it is, the very market responsible for many midnight launches, the rise of the shooter genre on console, and the bread and butter of Xbox LIVE. Even with their dip into the casual, family friendly market, the 360, at it's heart, is a core machine.

Since they've proven they can support both the family market & core market simulatneously, the system is in a fantastic position right now.

Great post! I don't think there has ever been a console that resonates so well with both sides of the gaming landscape. Gratz MS, such an achievement.

That's good news for sure. However I believe they need to start showing it rather than talking about it.

What you and snesboy said, but I know for sure that it looks like microsoft abandoned the eastern demographic core (the demographic that I strongly fall under), since it doesn't look like any JRPG is coming to them, and Ace Combat is now becoming westernized

To rephrase Eazy E's quote from the song "Boyz in the hood" (to fit it in this context): It's all about makin' that C-O-D.

(in the song, it's, as you might've guessed, "G-T-A")

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Can you blame them? The sales in Japan are abysmal. And most JRPGs, FFXIII excluded struggle to break a million. Besides didn't they have a contract of sorts for 3 exclusive JRPGs from some developer, but I think all 3 of those are out now. Not much Japanese love left!

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

This reminds me on Nintendo.

Not to rain on everyones parade or anything but how is MS going to support both kinect and core gamers, they had few exclusives they owned rights to in previous years and now they have less assets then those years, I have no doubt that atleast one MS unannounced core game is in the works but I'm just wondering who's going to be making these exclusives since all of MSes studios are tied up in kinect games (which after 500 million in advertising is by far their priority)

MS has multiple focuses because they have multiple studios, so they can definitely cater to both.

That's Mistwalker you're thinking of, and no, only two games have released so far. There was a third game in development that got scrapped (though I'm not sure if it's published by AQ Interactive or Microsoft themselves).

Yeah that's the ones, and yeah I heard that they scrapped the last game, just wasn't too sure if they've already made two or three games.

I think it was published by Microsoft, not sure if that was the one, but I think Lost Odyssey had the usual "Microsoft" entry screen that you get on the exclusives, the whole green and white background thingy with MICROSOFT appearing in the middle.

didn't nintendo said the same thing but in the end the wii core fanbase got drought after drought on quality games?

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

I don't think you realize how few they have

1st Party

343 Industries: A studio set up to develop future Halo related productions.[6] (pretty obvious they are working on next halo)

BigPark: Kinect Joy Ride. (working on kinect)

Good Science Studio: Kinect Adventures[7] (working on kinect)

Lionhead Studios: Black & White series, Fable series. (fable and maybe kinect)

MGS Mobile Gaming: focused on bringing games and entertainment to the Windows Phone 7. (phone games only, outside chance of port to xbl for some of them)

Rare Ltd.: Banjo-Kazooie series, Battletoads series, Conker series, Perfect Dark series, Viva Piñata series, Kinect Sports (working on kinect and maybe more n64 games for xbl)

Turn 10 Studios: Forza Motorsport series. (forza only obviously)

Xbox Live Productions: Fable II Pub Games, South Park Let's Go Tower Defense Play! (either phone or xbl games)

Wingnut Interactive: A studio set up in partnership with Peter Jackson to produce "filmic games". (only one we don't know what they are working on)

3rd Party Affiliates

Bungie: Halo Series (went multiplat)

Epic Games: Gears Of War series (going multiplat, gears 3 last exclusive)

feelplus: Lost Odyssey, Ninety-Nine Nights II. (all current projects multiplat)

Frontier Developments: Kinectimals. (working on kinect)

Mistwalker: Lost Odyssey. (haven't worked on a 360 game since 2007)

Remedy Entertainment: Alan Wake. (Either MS is paying them for a sequel to alan wake or they went back to multiplat)

Robot Entertainment: Age of Empires Online. (never made a console game)

Ruffian Games: Crackdown 2. (This one looks like they might be working on something for MSes core audience)

Sarbakan: Lazy Raiders. (XBL game or xbl/psn game)

Signal Studios: Toy Soldiers. (only released one game, could go multiplat could be working on something else, no information at all)

Silicon Knights: Too Human. (working on multiplats currently)

Ska Studios: The Dishwasher (dishwasher sequel other xbl game)

So anyways that means that MS has a few developers which might be working on a core exclusive for 360 that hasn't been announced yet, some of which might be working on a multiplat, not looking good for their promise
