Not only is Call of Duty: Black Ops one of the fastest selling video games of all time, racking up more than a billion dollars in sales in 2010, it's also impressively enough one of the most illegally downloaded.

According to a report from BitTorrent news site TorrentFreak, the PC version of Black Ops has been pirated an impressive 4.2 million times. The newest Call of Duty bested Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (3.96 million downloads), Mafia II and Mass Effect 2 to take home the most-stolen crown.

Thieves who own an Xbox 360 did their share in Black Ops stealing, downloading that console version 930,000 times, according to TorrentFreak's numbers. Dante's Inferno wound up being the most downloaded Xbox 360 game, with Super Mario Galaxy 2 sitting atop the most pirated list on for Wii owners. Congratulations all around!

Wooh that is a lot of downloads.  Looking at the Wii list, noticed that Red Steel 2 made it on there.  Just disappoints me.  Must say I'm surprised Dante's Inferno is on there for 360.  

wow thats 71.4 million dollars out of Activison's pocket (roughly $17 dollars profit off each sale per game) 

oh top of that we have used sales taking out an few million over time so an game like call of duty loses around $372 million in sales if there is 1 million lost by used and 5.2 million in pirated (add an extra million for the following months.

The sad thing in all of this is that PC gamers are causing its own down fall. 

See Developers and Publishers dont see PC as an large share of the market now so dont make games for it or do crappy ports because PC gamers are just pirating all the games so the sales numbers are lower then the console counterparts. So there is an good market for pc if the gamers aren't stealing there games. At least its keeping intel, Amd, Nvidia in business because gamers are there biggest customers. 

But it is sad that games isn't half as bad as Movies or Music because games are much larger downloads then an 10 mb song or an 1 gb movie.
