Forums - Sony - ps3 firmware update question

I wouldn't worry about it. Sony made the PS3 region free for videogames, but must be region locked for Blu-ray and DVD. They are well aware of this and know that people are going to import games. If they failed to take importing games into account during disc based firmware updates then it would have been a huge blunder that would be all over the net. If the firmwares weren't compatible I would expect Sony to just block your PS3 from upgrading to prevent harm to itself as the firmware can also be pulled off the internet.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

The firmware is updated worldwide unlike the dlcs. Its the same for everyone. So, if you download the firmware from Europe or Japan it doesn't matter at all.

@nordlead

thats what i think. I just wanted to be sure, a little reassurance never hurt :)

Firmware and games are not region locked.

Just DLCs are.
