The founder of Epic Games Mike Capps has revealed in a recent interview that Gears of War 3 is being planned for a September release.

"Microsoft approached us about moving the game back to September. Now normally you hear stories about evil publishers trying to convince the developer to ship it early," Capps explained to Gamespot.

"Whenever we'd have date conversations, we'd say, "Oh the game has got to be good; it's got to be done when we ship it!" That part of the industry, for us, is now completely gone. Now we say, "If we can do this in September, October, November, we can do something amazing like Halo: Reach."

"That had huge promotion that got a lot of people behind it and got huge attention at retail. So a couple extra months was fine by us, it'll just make the game better. They thought it would be better for them, so we played along."

Gears of War is one of the few franchises in the games industry that can compete with the likes of Call of Duty, but if this latest release target is accurate Microsoft's exclusive will pip Activision's golden IP to store shelves.

Great news. I'll have some time with Gears solely 'til Uncharted drops. Then it's a balance between the two.

So this means that there will be no Halo this year??? All Halos have been released in September. Did we go back to the 2 year development cycle for the franchise?

OT: Too bad it's still a few months away, but it'll be definitely worth it! :)

Gears is absolutely my favortie new IP this generation, so I can't wait for the multiplayer beta and even more so for the final game.  The sooner they bring it, the better!

Cant wait for this, despite having not really liked Gears 1, I LOVED Gears 2, and the story was alright for a shooter, the online was frigging annoying though with the constant shotgun rolling..
