you know, there was a time I would say how could anybody not like this game, but then the reviews for GT5 started to come out and it's apperent people can bitch about anything, So i'm crossing my fingers on this one, great start

LittleBigPlanet is sitting at 95% on Metacritic. Unless a lot of reviewers decide to backtrack then it seems sure LBP2 will be getting a lot of glowing reports. All the previews say it's better in every way so it should be another critical darling.
I can't believe they missed the holiday sales though. Sony and Media Molecule seem determined to always give the franchise some form of handicapped start on the market.
Can't wait myself. LBP is my favourite new IP this gen, and the new tools and open creation platform approach look awesome.

@ Bolded: In fairness, perhaps it just wasn't ready. If that was the case, the extra polish time is worth it. With a game as ambitious as this, I don't think there can be much room for error, and judging by critical acclaim to the first, I think they knew they had to live up to enormous expectations. I think this early score, while given by a PlayStation magazine, could be a sign of things to come. |
No, I agree with Reasonable, as this gen as shown I think "extra polish" hasn't much improved scores or perception of the game (SC, AW, GT5 to name a few) that said I don't know what state they were in before .. can't have been that bad surely. They all looked fine ....
LBP2 could have been a massive seller this xmas ... it'll sell well throughout the next year though no doubt.

Oh I won't argue what it could have done during the holiday season, but I stand by my guess that it just wasn't ready, or they saw too much competition (with GT5 included) and thought it's release was not only too close to it, but too close to Black Ops as well. Looking at the previous title, it didn't really take off until after the 2008 holiday was over, and I imagine competition played a role then as well. Whatever the case may have been, I think missing the holiday probably won't hurt it's sales much. And looking at how they've set it up, it starts the year off just right for Sony. |
The reason was apparently to try and avoid early patches, which I think is wonderfully laudable in many ways, but this implies they could have got it out just that bit earlier if they wanted and taken then - fairly common these days, right or wrong - approach of patching later.
Apparently MM said they didn't want to give people who don't connect to the internet a game that wasn't 100% perfect. Really great attitude, just not maybe the best business choice.
I mean even MS have spoken publicly about deciding to get Kinect out for the holidays even though the interface work wasn't finished particularly international languagues.
It's just a competitive market now and you've got to balance these decisions.
Still, I love Media Molecule even more than before for their old fashioned commitment to 'when it's done'.
Let's hope it still does well and has legs.

Judging by LBP1, I think it will.
You guys should be ashamed. Media molecule did this to help the guys who don't have internet at their house.
At least that's what they said, and they have only delayed the game for like 2 months.
This shows the professionalism of Media Molecule. PD were a bit too ambitious and I believe Sony might have butted in.

But you know it would have meant reviews may have hammered it that way. They have to make the best decision overall for the product, and putting it out needing patches, along with having to go toe-to-toe with Black Ops & GT5 may not have been the wisest decision. Of course MM will tell us why they thought it shouldn't have released during the holiday, but I thinking Sony considered what you said, plus what I'm saying. We'll see how it all turns out, but I'm willing to bet this was the best move. I think it will be critically received better and will have strong legs. If not, I'll revisit this topic and concede. |
As a customer I salute their choice. I just think LBP is so good - if there's anything I'm biased about its not consoles but certain games, LBP being one - that I just wish it could have gotten a lovely holiday push with a nice bunble, etc.
Still, my pre-order remains firmly in place, I've watched the videos covering the new tools, and I am ready to go.
All I need is LBP2.

How can they say that you can easily lose more time with it than any other game out in 2011? 2011 isn't even here yet. or is it in England? Oh sorry guy only the first 4 words of this message was aimed at you. What if Game Party 4 on kinect takes more of our time? |
