Forums - Microsoft - RUMOR - Retro City Rampage heading to XBLA

Retro City Rampage has long been headed to Nintendo’s WiiWare service, but it looks like it may be heading to Xbox Live Arcade as well.

Completing Day 19 of Mission in Snowdriftland unlocks a printable file for a Retro City Rampage Sega Master system insert. It also says that the game is headed to both WiiWare and Xbox Live Arcade.

If this were a simple typo we might understand, but the game’s developer confirmed the game is headed to another platform through their Twitter account.

“Sorry, still unable to confirm the release date, but for sure 2011 and for sure also one of the other consoles. Will confirm ASAP,” the Tweet said.

Around the Network

No longer a rumor

Brian Provinciano, the mad man responsible for Retro City Rampage, has exclusively revealed to Destructoid that his retro-style homage to gaming will now be coming out on Xbox Live Arcade Summer 2011. With that good news comes with some sad news as the WiiWare version of Retro City Rampage will now be coming out in Fall 2011, months after the XBLA version.

Although the release date comes later than originally planned, both versions of the game will now include more content, such as more missions and more playable characters. The Xbox 360 version will also include widescreen support and additional Xbox LIVE features including a challenge mode, character creator mode and video replays.

Brian wanted to make sure we let Wii fans know that he has "done everything possible to avoid disappointing them" and "apologizes for the delay". Retro City Rampage is a "100% self-funded" project still and Brian is actually cashing in the rest of his retirement savings this week to continue work on the game. That's pure dedication right there, folks!

Releasing his project on XBLA will help guarantee Brian some money from the project, especially considering that WiiWare doesn't do all that well in the sales department. Brian summed up the situation to us by stating that "in order to continue making these games and not have to start flipping burgers afterRetro City Rampage is done, it needed to be multi-platform."

Not surprised at all, first there was Super Meat Boy, now this. Won't be surpirsed if other wii exclusives go aswell like LostWinds or whatever. Just confirms that nintendo sucks on so many levels

The trailer for this game looks awesome. Day one buy for me! This is a pretty sure bet to be in Summer of Arcade 2011.
