Forums - Microsoft - Is kinnect worth it?

No, if you don't have much money.

Around the Network

It seems to be more for the casual market which may or may not fit your taste...

If it does.... I think you'll love it.

“Absolutely, we can do much more with it. I don’t know if we are even close to 50 percent of PlayStation 3’s power at this point,” said Asmussen about God of War 3.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

I'm waiting for some games to come out for it that interest me. I like the eyetoy / ps-eye games and it's nice to see ms taking it a step further. Kinnect sports looks fun, however I'm afraid that kinnect will not be able to offer the same precision I'm now used to from sports champions at gold level. Plus it's too soon for another sports collection anyway. The rest doesn't interest me.

Sure something like kung fu live will work better on kinnect, but not worth 150 dollars atm just to be able to play it at night. The 15 dollars for that confirmed the biggest problem for me with controller free gaming. Movement. It all works fine when the action comes to you, but as soon as you have to move further to the sides then the camera allows it becomes frustrating very fast.

I'll probably pick one up later next year, too many games to play atm. Hoping for a good adventure to come out for it, heavy rain style with kung fu live style action sequences would be awesome.

I don't think you're missing anything at this point.    I don't own it, but have played on it several times, it seems to only read large motions (no fingers for Minority Report type feel).  I think they removed the necessary processor for that level of accuracy.

The games on it are fun distractions but I haven't seen anything on it that'd I'd want to play a second time (maybe Dance Central, but there's plenty of other Dance games on other systems).

I'm waiting for some deeper games and better utilization to come out before purchasing myself, else it'll be 'collecting dust in the closet' like so many Wiis (supposedly).

Is it worth yes, should you get it no. That is not a sleight on you it is just you seem to be cash strapped and I really could not recommend this to you until you have seen it for yourself and made your own decision. Please for the love of god do not listen to this lot when they talk about Kinect unless they have it or have experienced properly (15 minutes round your mates is not going to count sorry). Most of what you hear on here especially negative comments are complete rubbish.

For the others out in the vast wilderness of Kinect nay saying. Kinect has some very enjoyable games the best game for me is Kinect Sports. I am not sure why people point to Dance Central. Yes it is a good game but Kinect Sports is probably better. Mainly because it is easier to get into and it is way more fun. I think the sales already prove this to be true.

Yeah to be honest bro I would not suggest picking this up unless you have a specific game for it that you have to have, but right now there are none.  Dont get me wrong, I bought one myself but not for gaming reasons, more for a workout tool for my fiancee.  Wait until there are some truly compelling games to play, and by then microsoft will have rolled out a few updates for it to improve functionality, there are a couple rumors rolling around but a major one is microsoft upgrading the accuracy of the kinect via firmware update which is awesome knowing they can increase the performance without having to redesign the hardware itself.

i saw this person from microsoft at bestbuy playing on kinect. i think she was there to advertise the system. she had very hard time calibrating. she tried to kick the soccer ball and she just couldn't get the kinect to read her correctly. it took her 5-6 times to get it right.

I don't know. Kinect seems to be such a innovative idea but it is like 3D TV. idea itself is amazing but technology is not up to the level yet.

these stories need to end.

ANYONE who has Kinect Sports will tell you it works PERFECTLY.  Particularly soccer funnily enough.

I might just pick up kinect sports then, Ive only played adventures and tried out eq sports active 2 (I dont think you can really play ea sports active) which both seemed to function well enough with a few hiccups, but for the most part kinect does a great job of tracking your movements even with multiple people.  However, if kinect sports works perfectly I may just want to pick it up just to try it.  BTW, off topic a little bit, ea sports active kicks your ass.  Believe that lol.

My friend got a Kinect with Sonic Riders. He says its ok but mainly just when he has people over.

I personally see nothing that would make me buy that device, especially at $150. The only games I am even mildly interested in are Child of Eden and that Star Wars game, but even so, I would never in a million years spend $50-$60 for those games. Please, I can barely stomach forking out $55 for Black Ops..

Once the thing drops in price to like 50 bucks, I might pick one up.

I saw a woman try to use it to play Kinectimals and she died right there in the videogames section of Toys R Us.  The coroner called it "Callibrationitis".

Sorry.  I made that up.  I just felt left out and I wanted to post.

I suppose because it's the only Kinect-enabled game so far that got a "favourable" metascore on Metacritic.

Anyway, I agree with what the others say: What until some good games get released. By that time Kinect will probably be cheaper as well.
