Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft offering free Xbox 360 game with Windows Phone 7

It is called cross promotion, has noone ever heard of it?

If I were desperate I would probably be repeating desperate many times over like a desperate man in desperation. However thats just me, im not saying theres any desperation here, not at all.

Tease.

I don't see the worth in this deal, seems more like a way to introduce the phone to 360 users or something.

The PS3 deal on the other hand, its a TV and a PS3, many people will probably need both so it's a good deal for them.

Windows mobile phone and games that you need another system to play on = fail.

Unlike Kinect, wp7 has been a total disater, I got one as a gift and it's really good but without multitasking it's really far behind the big boys. A few updates will help it compete greatly and I love the zune part.

lol... if you think thats desperate.. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/cmpn/buy-one-get-one.aspx

Android and $ony is probably desperate too. iPhone rules!

Thats an AT&T deal,  trying to get people under contract is all that matters to them.  Neither Sony or Google had anything to do with promotion.  Its not the same.

The microsoft link is also an at&t deal. They are both promotion.

I doubt its free. Gold membership fee most of paid for all the promotions and stuff. That is my theory.

great deal!

@vetteman94 - why didn't you say sony giving away ps3s with the purchase of a tv is desperate?

3 years after it came out compared to 1 month, not really the same thing I would say.

Not to mention those PS3 deals are also in a collaboration effort with them and Best Buy.  Hence why you cant get the same deals at other stores

a £300 game system and a £40 game... not really the same thing I would say.

neither are desperate.  its a PROMOTION.  not everything is a fanboy game.

Yet thats exactly what you made it out to be by bringing up the PS3 TV deal, you are blantantly obvious with your intentions

Windows 7 phones arent doing so well early on and interest is low in them as well,  throwing this promotion out there so early in its life cycle reeks of being desperate.  Not the same thing as the PS3 TV deal, as it came a few years after release and its a combo deal, buy a PS3 and a Sony TV and get alot of money taken off.  If you were to only buy a Sony TV you dont just get a PS3 free

To call it desperation is incorrect. This is more of a business tactic. They are attempting to claim a stake in a market that is dominated by Apple and Google. What they are trying to do is mass market penetration with these promotions. This does not guarantee success, but it hardy reeks of desperation.

The free game promotion is mainly aimed at Xbox 360 owners; it only targets the audience that already owns an Xbox 360 or a potential owner.  The BOGO sales go on with all retailers with many phones at various times of the year. This promotion may also have something to do with the time of the year it is as well.

MS is giving away alot of free promotional stuff lately, seems more like desperate advertising then anything

I would agree with you if it was later in the products lifetime,  but Windows Mobile 7 has only been out for just over a month,  and early reports are showing the products are a bust.
