I can post in this thread a hundred times if I want to. The fact is that giving the world cup to Qatar was a brilliant idea. It's openning the door to a whole shitload of opportunities for that part of the world.

Cash has always ruled in every aspect of human society. As a seeker of truth and justice, I'd think you should know that. I'm sorry if I don't agree with you or the article written by "Mr. Neutral" which you used as a source.

You don't find it a problem that gay people basically can't risk going to the WC without risking being arrested?

I mean seriously, when asked about this Sepp Blatter basically said "I should say they should refrain from any sexual activites" or you know.... hand holding, or even a slight kiss... because that could end you up in jail!

Then he later apologized and said "I'm sure it will work out."

 

This isn't the kind of thing you'd want a gurantee on?  To hold a world wide event in a country where human right abuses are so great that the entire world can't enjoy it is ridiculious.

I see this as an amazing opportunity to put focus on such injustice in the Middle East, as well as contribute to the modernization of Qatar. I guarantee you once this World Cup is said and done, gays will enjoy tremendous rights in Qatar. Rights which they never would have gotten if the world wasn't watching.

You mean like the Olympics with China... where absolutely nothing changed, and in fact the Olympics had to compromise themselves instead?  Qatar is going to change it's stance on gay rights because... they've been given a world cup when they deny gay people their rights?

I mean, you do know the whole point to getting people to change stuff is to withold things they want until they change it right?

Not go "Hey we gave you this, so how about you change your laws?"

They already have it.  There is no motivation.

What the hell does Qatar care what the rest of the world thinks?

Alot can happen in 12 years, human rights wise, just look at history in many countries and you will see that it has happend countless times. Sometimes in less than 12 years. But anyways im not happy about the whole gay issue, based on this fact alone FIFA should not have given them the world cup! Im also upset that FIFA even allowed the other nations to bid they clearly planned on giving it to the chosen nation beforehand. That said im all for expanding the world cup to all parts of the world, but lately ive been thinking FIFA has gone about it the wrong way.
