Forums - General - Fox News tops source of voter misinformation

I can't say the results of the study surprise me much because voters are generally uniformed about political issues, but the level of misinformation is concerning. There is a difference between not knowing an answer and believing a wrong answer to be true.

The very first thing you learn when you take a research class is that people HATE saying "I don't know."

You could make up a question that his completly fictional like

"Did Alexander the Great say his favorite color was Red or Blue" and a great number of people will say either Red or Blue, even though such an event never occured.

Are you assuming that there is no "correct" answer in these questions asked?  And to your wired article, it says that they could be remnants of the gulf war, so that isn't good proof at all of WMDs found.

"But chemical weapons, especially, did not vanish from the Iraqi battlefield. Remnants of Saddam’s toxic arsenal, largely destroyed after the Gulf War, remained."

Does that justify the invasion of Iraq to you?

Quiet honestly, does anyone actually takes foxnews as a "news" channel?

They are the most baised people in the news network and there are MANY examples online of their biased news. This guy has tons of videos  on the false info reported by foxnews. It is intereseting to watch and a MUST watch if you think fox is "fair and balanced".

So this study is not a big suprise at all. BTW here is a video to get started if you still think Fox is a trusted news channel.

The finding of WMD's isn't proof of WMD's?  They found chemical weapons of mass destruction that according to the deals with the UN were supposed to be destroyed.  This is fairly similar to "Did the Stimulus save jobs."   Someone who thinks "It saved those jobs, but prevented new jobs from being created" very well may say no.

Just as you are indicating you would say no, after directly reading something that says they found weapons of mass destruction.  Did they find weapons of mass destruction "no because they were old weapons of mass destruction."  I mean... what?

Does that justify the invasion of Iraq to me?  No, but they could of found a Nuclear program and that wouldn't of justified it, at best a Clinton age "Bomb the shit out of them until they let us do what they want" campaign would of sufficed.

Also, you miss my point.  Which is that if people don't know the answer to something, they are most likely going to guess.  (Furthermore said guess will play into their own biases.  People who like Red better will say that's his favorite color.)

WOW, reading that article, it is pointing out how FoxNews manipulates the words on their station, EVERY single news outlet in America manipulates their words so it acheives the goals that they want, when are people going to realize this?

"And 55 percent believed the economy is still getting worse even though it’s been improving for over a year now." Are they HONESTLY saying this is misinformation?  Doesn't FoxNews have a weekly unemployment amount they make very clear and have the stocks in the lower right corner that have made it very clear they are going up?  It is an opinion on whether or not somebody believes the economy is still getting worse.

"Only a slim majority knew that President Bush signed the TARP legislation."  If I would have a trillion hours and go back, I could probably find an exact point where they said Bush signed this.

"And nearly 6 in 10 didn’t know the stimulus legislation signed by President Obama included a tax cut. Only 10 percent knew their taxes had gone down since Obama took office."  I would like to see a federal tax chart, and see where it shows the % going down...please don't call that stupid tax rebate (that me as a working 18 year old still living at home did not get) a tax cut.

This stuff isn't misinformation, its just not having a clue what's going on...I wouldn't know the answer to those questions if I watched CNN or MSNBC or FoxNews.

Fox news is a trusted news channel.  THE most trusted.

Whether you think it should or not is a completely different question.

It is quite clear that FoxNews presents the "right" aspect of the news, but the other news stations do the exact same thing, but people are just so used to hearing it they think nothing about it.

Edit: After watching one of those videos, it is actually really good that somebody is pointing out the false info that news stations provide, but there needs to be somebody doing the same for liberal stations, because I can GUARANTEE that they have false information too.

Maybe to average people who don't even give a second thought to actually research what they are reporting. Like I said, Watch the "fox news bias" playlist on his channel and then tell me if I or anyone should actually take them as a "news" channel.

EDIT: it is not my "opinion", it has been proven many times (with FACTS) that Foxnews misinforms the public.

Definitely, I am sure liberal channels misinfom the public too. But not as much as foxnews does. I think someone would be doing the same thing by now on youtube if other news channel did it as much as foxnews does. I haven't found anyone for other news channels like CNN, MSNBC or NBC YET

If you would have a billion people trying to prove the other stations wrong (we just don't care), you would find the same misinformative stuff.
