Forums - Sony - Anyone else hate Kratos as a character?

his best time as a character was during the first game. After that he turned into a Gary-Stu for the player to project onto as they blew off steam by having Kratos beat the heck out of minotaurs. You can tell that he was finished as a character at the end of GoW 1 because every time they try to add depth to him in the other games it comes off as trying too hard

Very much agreed. Not a likeable or respectable character at all. He gets old very quickly

He's too powerful for my taste, I hate overpowered heroes.

Why the hell are you hyped for a superhero game (inFAMOUS 2) then ?

Honestly I think if you hate Kratos as a character then one of a few things happened:

1) You didn't play GoW3

2) You have a 360 and want this behemoth of a game to seem less significant (I see some suspicious sig's here)

3) You don't 'get' his character

Now, it has to be said; I usually don't like violent games. I didn't play GoW 1&2 (well I just got the collection so I will soon).

Kratos, to me is the most uncompromising, bad-ass character I have ever met. If you just go through the battle with Poseidon and see how he get's finished off, or how Kratos is always portrayed (artistically) as an imposing figure, how he NEVER backs down, how he has zero fear, how he transcends determination by his iron-will, then - THEN you might be able to understand what a unique and super powerful character he is.

Along with Uncharted2, GoW3 is THE game I use to show off my TV and PS3. At least 5 of my friends have sat through the whole game and ALL of them are in awe of Kratos. Even my PC loving friends. Even my Xbuddy friends.

I don't know about the games on PSP, but I can tell you that on the big screen Kratos is the God of War. He is the GOD of war. Do you get that?

This man speaks the truth.

Kratos isn't Nathan Drake...he isn't supposed to be loved for his charms or his goodness. He is an asshole. The quicker you realize it, the more you will enjoy the games...

Its fun to be the good bad guy once in a while.

Lmao, look it up in the books. & if I'm wrong then at least give me some evidence. If you can prove what I said was wrong then I'll stand corrected.  I only used that as an example because people were killed over silly things back in then. So if people were killed by something minor like that then how would it be if it were something serious.

Edit: I need to get used to posting on here I completely forgot to quote the person that this was aimed towards =/

As I've stated in another thread, Kratos' character is a prebuscent wet dream: people hurt me, me kill people and women want to screw me.  Yet, to those who haven't finished GOWIII I wont spoil it, but damn the ending cut scene was worse than any character flaw Kratos had (in my opinion). NOTE, not the ending battle, the ending of the story.

ALL that being said, I thought all three home console games were really enjoyable and would definitely recommend them to any PS3 owner.  Hell just the scale of GOWIII is incredible.  His character is what keeps the series as 'really good' to me, versus 'truly epic' though, I just can't relate.

About the ending, it'd make a lot more sense if you have basic knowledge on Greek mythology.

I gotta admit, I do laugh whenever that guy he killed in God of War 1 pops up.  That guy just can't catch a break! "What?  You again!? Anybody but you!!" Then Kratos does something to ruin his day.  Classic.

How far have you come in GoW3 already? I need to know it ;)

Took down Poseidon this morning so, not very far at all.  This is the kind of game I have to play at night!  (don't know why it isn't in the card in my sig).  I'm gonna jump on it right now, as a matter of fact.

Ah, ok. Then you will find a little surprise in GoWIII which I found to be quite hilarious (perhaps it was just me, but dunno). Probably during your next 1-2 hours in the game.

Was that him trapped in the brambles?  It sounded like him but I wasn't sure.  If it was:

JEEZUS, KRATOS!! What the fuck is wrong with you!?  That was horrible!!  Still cool, though.

He is not directly in GoW3. But you can find a letter of him on the ground. I just thought it was funny that they decided to mention this guy again in GoW3.
