I have lost 80 lbs since last January 24th.  Key things it isnt diet, it isnt exercise it is diet and exercise.  It also requires a basic understanding of body chemistry or simply that the body reacts to what you do and what you eat and if you dont understand that you can get discouraged.

Step 1 use a site like CalorieKing.Com - My wife and I discovered this site at about the same time we started (she has lost 30 lbs).  You need to chart your daily intake and know what you have eaten. It is very easy for little snacks to add up.  CalorieKing also provides a support network for all the issues you will go through.

Step 2 start exercising and dont stop. Sooner rather than later you will crave the exercise. I now feel bad on a day that I dont exercise.

Step 2 dring water, lots and lots of water.  I try to drink 16 8 ounce glasses per day.

Finally back to the discouragement stuff at the beginning. You need to understand that without drinking enough water your body retains water which hides your weight loss. You have more sodium you need more water to flush it out or you will retain water and this hides the fat loss. Muscle weighs more than fat so while exercise helps you loose fat you also are gaining muscle so you weight loss will appear  than it really is.  The body is a weird thing and you will plateau and then plummet with weight loss. You cant get discouraged during the plateau. You may go a week or two without much loss at all then bam week of 5 lbs lost with no difference in what you were doing.
