Forums - Gaming - 2011 Gaming predictions

Yup the year is almost over, so it's time to make some predictions about next year. Remember this's a predicition thread about events, news or situations; not about future releases or consoles.

* Nintendo didn't match their sales proyection with the Wii so it's probably that the console'll have another price cut around spring/summer of the next year; leaving the console with a $149 price tag (or even a little lower)

* The Vitality Sensor'll be either dropped or revealing with little hype. At this point it's clear that Nintendo'll be working hrader on the next home console, it'll be revealed at the next E3 or at least some hints'll be revealing next year.

* The next year is the real test for Move and Kinect, so I can see the support for one of this peripherals being dropped significantly, at least in America the difference in sales between Kinect and Move is quite big.

* PSP2'll finally be revealed, the problem is that the 3DS was an early surprise for everybody so now Sony is trying to figure it out how to sell his handheld to a wide audience. In Japan they can keep Monster Hunter but in the rest of the world things are quite difficult, the big chunck of market lost due the phone is going to be very hard to recover.

*Microsoft'll try at least something in the mobile market, maybe not with a new handheld but with the Windows Phone.

* 2011'll probably the peak year in sales for this generation in general, not even Kinect or Move'll stop this effect.

Around the Network

Wait, for your last prediction, you seriously think next year will be this gen's peak?

Wii and DS are declining. The latter will accelerate with an awesome successor on the horizon. The former will continue to decline unless the $150 price cut or Vitality Sensor does something really big, which is quite unlikely.

PSP is dead.

There's no way 360 will match the year with Kinect, Reach, Black Ops and Slim. Just no way.

PS3 may do well, but with a full year of Slim and GT5 launch, I wouldn't be so sure. No way it'll carry DSP and Wii60 on its back, anyway.

I had a mistake with that one, things are going to fall after this year's peak.

January~October - "Wii is d0med"

November - "This will be Wii's last xmas on top" <--- I'd rather see a better joke, this one's pretty old and not funny anymore.

December - "Wii is d0med for 2012"

Repeat cycle till current gen consoles stop selling.
