First off, I'd like to begin with my closing comments as well as the score for those who don't want to read the whole extensive review. This review will include every facet of the game seen from the eyes of a lifelong Gran Turismo fan and car enthusiast, as well as just a gamer enjoying a game (there will be 2 scores). Trust me in that "I know what I'm talking about" in games and cars. I've been around them long enough. This review will not, however, just sing the praises of the game just because I'm a fan. The fact is that the game has flaws that I will state clearly and not just cover up for the sake of fandom; truly, I find it is my duty to point them out so that the next Gran Turismo can be better than this one.

Gran Turismo 5 is a mix of some amazing things and some frankly shitty things too. From the eyes of a Gran Turismo fan rating a Gran Turismo game, it's a shock how low the series has gone. Because Kazunori Yamauchi has totally spoiled us throughout our lives with amazing perfection in his games, we have come to expect far more than this iteration is able to deliver. However, as just a gamer purely enjoying a game, it's one of the best on the current generation of consoles. All in all, while it doesn't compare well to the GTs of old, it outclasses every other racing game out there and delivers physics, gameplay, and artistry that rivals any other game franchise.

As a Gran Turismo game: 7.8

As Just a Game: 9.4

I'm interested in reading your review , but first I need you to answer this question, please: Were you at level 30 in the game when you wrote the review? and I don't ask because of "unlocking damage" or anything about that, but rather because I want to know if you experienced at least 95% of the game before "reviewing". So how much is your completion percentage right now, huh?

i'm level 25. and for your information, it's not necessary to finish everything in order to see where it's going. this isn't an RPG where you need to see the ending. there is no ending. everything occurs the same way as when you start the game. the AI isn't going to change at the later levels. it will still be shit. the graphics aren't going to improve later on. they will still be full of screen tearing and low res textures.

Wrong. You haven't experienced all the events if you are only level 25, so nevermind your talk about technical stuff not changing (no point bringing that up).

If you want to review something you have to complete it . End of Story. And I'm not talking about doing "extra stuff", tunning every car in the game or something for completionists like earning the platinum and stuff. But playing through the whole game is a requirement, simple as that. And level 25 is not the end.

i agree with you, the more you play the better it gets, just because you experience more.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

well you can try. go ahead, if you're such an expert, play through to level 40 if you want. but it's not going to change. do you think the graphics will suddenly improve at higher levels? do you think the standard cars will 'disappear'? do you think the AI will improve? NO. think rationally.

it's not rocket science. it's a racing game with set AI, set graphics, set everything that DO NOT CHANGE. deal with it. the things i complained about aren't the things that aren't going to get better. how can the screen tearing disappear at higher levels? whatever the level, the AI is still shit. go, try it. your zeal won't last long.

Ok you win. You can review a game without playing through it, that's what most review sites/magazines do very often anyway. And that's only one of the reasons why reviews don't have much weight anyways....

Bolded :  I'm no "expert" and I plan to play through level 40, and beyond if they let me, and you can be very well damn sure I won't pretend to write a review of the WHOLE game until I've experienced THE WHOLE GAME.

yeah, keep on dreaming that the game gets better later on. stick to facts. the graphics will stay the same. the experience will stay the same. the shitty AI will stay the same. the long load times will stay the same. what do you expect to change?

well whatever you want. i don't like arguing with people who don't see reason. good luck with the game, and go write a review when you're done in a year.

Well, at least I didnt make up my mind about the game after 1 hour of playing it like you clearly did, because as you repeatedly remarked it doesn't take long or rocket science to appreciate the faulty AI, the technical shortcomings and the load times, among other technical things. So you pretty much had your mind set from the start, I applaud you for your good review indeed!

1 hour? oh oh oh.. you better be prepared to back your statements up. i've been playing since november 26 nonstop, at least 6-7 hours a day. listen to you, someone who hasn't even seen the game yet, comparing yourself to me, a guy who has grown up with GT in my blood.

as i said, i won't argue anymore since you obviously are too blinded. leave the thread if  you don't like the review. good luck with the game.

You clearly don't understand English. I won't bother anymore, sorry.
