Forums - Gaming - So I finally finished Final Fantasy XIII...and I didn't really like it

Linear is not really a problem, every FF is in my opinion linear. I think the problem might be doing the same thing over and over and over. FF X was as much as linear, but there were temples, fighting new beasts, using new summons, learning usefull abilities, could actually feel the difference between Fire, Fira (Fire 2) and Firaga (Fire 3). FF X was the last FF where summons really matter. Hope they will get to the right track with FF XV, from what i heard FF XIV is bad.

i haven't finished the game yet, because of this, its one FF game that i actually don't want to keep playing =[ (ignore my sig and avatar)

to me the worst thing was the character i don't mind the linearity since FFX was linear as well, but the characters are so uninteresting and the storyline is very uninteresting as well, to me Front Mission Evolved had better storyline and characters which is ironic since Square (or Eidos) wanted to leave the RPG elements of it and focus on action.

Can I ask why you find the characters uninteresting? I was refreshed by the different kinds of characters the game had with opposing personalities clashing, the headstrong woman with the whiny boy, the chirpy but mysterious girl with the concerned father, when they split up it felt like they had their own importance in the storyline and it was very interesting to see how they developed together as characters.  Don't see how they are any less interesting than cast's from the previous games.

you should play the older games before saying that.

they're very shallow, being stereotypical whiny and "Headstrong woman" like you said is very very shallow, they don't develop at all, hope whines from the start of the game till the moment i left it, and Vanille is just "O HAI!" the whole time , and fang for some reason cares way too much about her (i mean Way way too much, as if she was her daughter or something, but in reality they barely met) , and Lightning is always "i shall finish this..even if costs me my (something) " , and to be honest i don't really know what they actually want from all this "Focus" thing, and how amazingly cliche every villian turn out to be.... well to be honest i can write about this all day, but it still doesn't change the fact that it was messy storyline with uninteresting everything.

also i remember you mentioning this being your first RPG , well damn you picked the worst game to start with this amazing genre.

wow its beyond obvious you never beat the game if you dont know the relationship between Vanille and Fang.  I mean the fact you said they barely met is hilarious......i mean *SPOILERS* they lived together on Gran Pulse hundreds of years ago.

Anyways I actually found 13 to be a great game.  The best Final Fantasy? Probably not but still an awesome game.

You've just committed the 13th sin of the Final Fantasy's holy Bible.

Doesn't the fact it is a multiplatform release make this sin acceptable?  I wonder what the talk about FF XIII would of been if it had just been on the PS3.

I would still hate it and I'm sure many more would too.

I have yet to buy it because I just don't care.  Why am I here, just to read the comments.

Gran Pulse was short?  It took me around 20 hours to get to Gran Pulse.  Actually, it took me around twenty hours to get to the giant open area in Gran Pulse.  I then spent another twenty hours screwing around in that area alone.

Overall, I thought it was a fun romp. The story was terrible, and the characters were ruined by their stupid decisions and actions, but the battle system was absolutely awesome.   Plus the game looked so pretty.

*kicks off cliff*

NO.  This is not your empire.  This is my empire.  I kick the people off cliffs.

LIsten, you're lucky I let you join in the first place.  Now cool down or you're going off the cliff.

shhhhhh! Nobody's supposed to know about your super secret empire!

I have an odd feeling this empire is filled with fat goth chicks...since this is Muisc's Empire....

Let's get rolling!!!

Lol! What do you mean they mean they barely met? I think you just shot your foot a little there. You still haven't finish it right? I won't spoil it for you and for the focus thing if they don't do it they will turn into a cieth, an enemy of cocoon.

Although I won't argue about it even though I enjoyed I pretty much know why it is hated by some.

Welcome to the club, I feel the same way. Looking back I enjoyed it here and there but I didn't like Lightning at all, plus the combat was the worst of any FF I've played imo. I'm much more of an open field, massive world gamer. I highly doubt I will buy Versus since I suspect it will have the exact same gameplay but with different characters -_-.

Im hoping the gameplay is more like a Kingdom hearts style.

^Same here, I loved the KH games and the combat is one of the best I have played in any game.

I think it was a very good jRPG. Sure it could have been better considering the final fantasy name, but at the same time, its still better then the average jRPGs.

hmm tempted to link my blog about ff13 >.>
