Forums - General - We know President Bush assailed our freedoms with Patriot Act...

Why are the same people not going crazy over this stuff:

And we all know the sexual assaults from the TSA

Doesn't matter who is in power because it's all about power and staying in power

No I am not accessorize  with tin foil hats...well maybe sometimes

Well I'm going crazy about some of that stuff...

and the fact that the Patriot Act you know... still exists.

It's just there is nobody to argue with.   When Bush was doing it there were Republican guys who thought "Hey this is great."

While now that the Democrats are doing it all the democratic posters just try to avoid these threads.

So threads tend to die out quickly.

That would be because both sides have an agenda.  If ya haven't noticed, if your party is in power you support them to death and do damage control.  If they are out of power, you bitch, moan, and complain about everything they do.  Just how it seems to work.

So yea I don't like the direction they are looking into with the internet.  I hate all the controls there is with television as it is, but shouldn't touch the internet.  And like Kaz said, that the PATRIOT Act is still there, pisses me off a lot.

Yeah, the whole Patriot act and Fiza thing was one of the main reasons I voted for Obama.

Literally it was 2 main things.

1) I thought he would get rid of the Patriot Act.

2) He was black.  Sounds dumb I know... but him and McCain both looked like they were going to mess up the country, so may as well pick the guy who is going to have special significance for like a third of the country or so.  In general it was worth it just for the reaction a lot of african americans had when he was elected.  i remember seeing some people crying with joy over the first black president.  Race shouldn't of mattered, but it did... and it was a good thing.

I mean, i've literally got zero to hide as I tend to live a really open really boring life but the Patriot act and Fisa are just disgraceful.  One of those things that bugs me on a principle stance rather then an actual effecting me stance.

I knew about the first of those, didn't know about the second two. It's bullshit that a Government acts like that, the Government should abide by the rules that are set down for it.

TSA is a different matter though in my opinion, well at least the full body scanners. I'm comfortable that they are necessary and if properly used and regulated do not encroach excessively upon liberty.

@Kasz. Race shouldn't have mattered but with your countries history it really was very significant. It showed how far you had come in the last 50 years.

Also, why the hell is the PATRIOT Act still around? That is one of the worst pieces of legislation to ever be passed in American history.

To many people the issues don't matter as much as what team you are on, cheering for that team and cheering against the other team.  You will find very few libertarians.

I actually agree with that, but I think they need better regulation for said positions.

For example, making the body scanner job a "higher up" job you promote people in... and then have people go through the scanners based on gender.   To cut out a decent amount of the "prevs."

Not that I care personally.  Most people do though.

they need to get rid of the patriot act. No one seems to care. so eventually we will be all slaves for the goverment.

Well yea I was hoping him and the democrats would actually get rid of the Patriot Act, but obviously never happened or really even considered.  Makes me very unhappy.

And yea it was nice to see a black president elected.  I was pretty happy when it happened.  I mean it shouldn't matter but obviously it goes into account just like other things such as religion.  I mean I understand why they look at religion, but I think we should all realized now that your religious affiliation has nothing to do with the quality of their moral fiber.

Oh well I suppose.  Hopefully one day we'll get some people in government who have enough will to do the right thing in protecting the rights of its citizens from things like that.  Not worry about backlash but simply do the right thing.  Forget politically correct and do what is actually correct.  Guess we are asking for too much eh.

All our early presidents were Deists anyway.  Granted nobody ever cops to that though....

Yeah eh, maybe we should move to New Zealand like Mafoo, ha.

Scenary would be nicer... I think their Nintendo distribution sucks though.
