Forums - Sony - If You Only Buy 1 [non-Kart] PS3 Racer this Gen it Must be..

I know most people are going to say GT5 but I still think it's a legit thing to discuss. Basically I like racing games well enough, but I'm no fan. I'm not going to fork out for a racing wheel, so that automatically diminishes the experience for the high end racers like GT5.

It's more or less a case of I'll most likely only buy one non-kart racing game this gen, and I want it to be the right one. I like acrade racers and sims. In previous generations I've owned Burnout Dominator and Formula 1, but oddly never a GT game. I've played a NFS game on PS2 and it was fun and challenging. I entered the GT challenge this year (wasn't expecting anything to come of it, but had fun trying to get as good a time as possible, and was more than happy with the visual quality).

Kart racing-wise I have MNR and I love it.

So, I'm only buying one more racer this gen (probably) and I'll be playing it with DS3. At the moment GT5 is probably the one I'm looking at most seriously, but am I better off going with something else, something more arcadey, or Formula 1? I was considering GT5P, but I figure why not wait for GT5 to go platinum then buy, rather than get the demo now?

So what say you? GT5 or something else?

It'd be Gt5.

GT5 easily,   there is nothing else on the PS3 worth buying racing wise.

Well don't like simulation racers at all so that would eliminate a lot of choices.  So would be Burnout Paradise then, which is actually the only racing game I own on the 360 as well (don't own many on Wii either but all of them are action racers not sim racers).  Favorite racer of all time for me though still is Burnout 3: Takedown on Xbox and PS2.  Love that game.  Was once in the top 100 on the leaderboards in that game.  Sure did play it a lot.

definitely GT5!

GT5 I guess. I am playing with DS3, although it diminishes much of the beauty behind the wheel, the game is still fun and each cars still feel very different from one another behind the DS3.

If you hate simulator then look out for arcade games like hot pursuit uh

If you do play with the DS3, try using the right analog stick for accel/braking that really helps out with controlling the car. Using the X and square button really makes it (although the buttons are analog) a digital ON/OFF for acceleration, and you can lose some control.

As for non-GT5, I liked NFS:Carbon, but apparently everybody else hates it so.. maybe not a good recommendation.

Yep, GT5. Best racing game all year (certainly on PS3), and maybe my favorite racer of the gen in due time.

OK so what's better in your opinion at this stage? Anything on PS3 or are the other best in gen games all only on other systems?

I would say GT5, but i can't beleive no one has even mentioned GRID if you're looking for something slightly more arcadey.
