Forums - General - Joe Bonamassa is the best current guitarist IMHO

ys straight blues, rockblues, straight Rock, southern boogie, some delta, and acoustic stuff.  His influences were British and Irish blues rock like zepplinpage, clapton, Jeff Beck, Rory Gallagher.

yeah I know I'm learning how to embed

He was a prodigy who opened for BB King in rochester,NY when he was 12.  The video is bad but you can see he was well on his way

I don't know the ins and outs of guitar playing but I do know when an artists give me that semi-orgasmic feeling LOL

First you need to clarify yourself about what is the best.

A player can be the best on a technical level but whats he's playing is so intricate and complex that it is not pleasant to hear for many people, thus it may not be the best player because despite his skill, he doesn't play much hear candy stuff.  One example of this would be Yngwie Malmsteen (skip to one minute):

On the other hand, you have guitar players, that with the most simple chords can make a classical song that millions of people love. Like Eric Clapton with Tears in Heaven. Clapton's technical skill on the guitar is way below that of Yngwie's, still he's playing a "better" melody that more people like the best, thus, he's a better player than Yngwie.

I think you're referring to the second point of view of "best guitarist", and if so, that is questionable. It comes down to one's preference about who's the best.

Now speaking at a technical level, in my own opinion, I have never seen such a good player as the Brazilian Tiago Della Vega (skip to the 2 minutes mark)

I am commenting on the artists writing performing their music as pertaining to my particular taste.  I'm glad you posted those artists as I'm going to give them an in depth listen

Bonamassa can play a mean acoustic  I don't know why he doesn't get played on rock radio.  Rock radio when I was a kid was awesome now it stinks..but thats for another thread

@Metrahla. Clapton is considered one of the guitar greats mainly for his solos which are brilliant in technique.

I have the most respect for that man, but speaking at a technical level, he doesn't compare to Yngwie.

But I prefer Clapton for his songs nonetheless :)
