Forums - Sony - Gran Turismo 5 - Since When do Graphics Make the Game?

The question needs to be: If you are looking for a console game that would be good as a driving sim, would Gran Turismo 5 fit the bill?  Anyone here want to argue "no" to that?  I believe the question should be, whether or not someone looking for a driving sim should buy a PS3 just to play Gran Turismo 5.  THAT is the question that matters.  Maybe for some Forza 3 and a 360 would be sufficient.

Well you'll have your answer next week, when Japan & EMEAA respond.

It is a question anyone interested in a driving sim needs to ask themselves actually.  This question is independent of sales numbers.

It's true that graphics aren't everything, but GT without an extreme focus on graphics is not GT... since graphics are such a huge part of the experience... hardly everything is driving mechanics in the series... the focus is excessive, I agree, but it sometimes can't be done without of... especially when your expectations from the game are so big.

But the graphics are amazing too... just the standard cars and some tracks are low but that's could be fixed.

The real plot of GT, the driving phisics are spectacular spectacular.

The sheer scope GT tries to cover is another big point.  Outside of maybe some race types that slip my mind, it is lacking motocycles is about it.  Ok, it doesn't have monster trucks that I know of either, but really?  What is it missing?

i agree to some degree.. i think the reason why people are making a fuss about the graphics is because it it something that is notable in all gran turismo games, but i however dont make a big deal bout the graphics because im mostly interested in the gameplay, of course graphics is a good thing but its not the main thing and more people need to realize that

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

You can't have threads like this

"People are wrong to expect amazing graphix from GT5 when the gameplay only matters"

followed by

"Patch coming to improve performance"

Looks like you're spinning every possible angle...

Im sure the graphics are fine, and gamplay is stellar. GT5 doesn't need any excuses...

Graphics is important to me. Gaming is my  other means of escape from real life stress so the more realistic the game is, the better it is to do something that is not possible in real life.

I agree completely.

People seem to be making out GT5 to be ugly graphic-wise now.  It isn't that.  It has some technical issues they are looking to patch.  The graphics are real good on it.  Can we let that rest for now?  This is some sort of weird inversion of pre-release talk where someone runs a signature saying how GT5 is "better than real".  Really?

So, you need realism to escape real life?  How about "more fun than reality" and also being immersive?

Graphics are a huge part of the game which brings it to life to gamers....

Fortunately, the graphics are AMAZING...

I swear I don't know where the complaints have come from.... some of you people need a new ass TV.

“Absolutely, we can do much more with it. I don’t know if we are even close to 50 percent of PlayStation 3’s power at this point,” said Asmussen about God of War 3.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

Funny thing is the graphics are pretty good given the resolution and average frame rate coupled with the number of cars.

Look at CoD : BO running sub HD to get 60fps for example.

Personally, I actually think PD tried to push the graphics too far in some ways, giving rise to the occasional screen tear and frame rate stutters I've noticed.  The PS3 is only so powerful, and TBH I would have happily settled for a lovely looking 720p GT5 with steady 60fps and no screen tearing.

So - I agree.  Graphics are only an issue if they seriously let the game down - which GT5's don't in any way that I can see compared to any similar title.

I agree. It seems PD was trying to do way more than is possible out of PS3.  This no doubt cost them a lot of time and money trying to push the hardware to the max.
