Most deffinatly not the best racing game ever...

GT5 is a good game but it doesn't tick all the boxes. Especially if we are comparing to Forza 3. The sound is not as good, the crash physics are not as good, the tracks overall are less varied and not as good, the AI is nowhere near as good, the customization is nowhere near as good, the ability to design your cars is not in it, the menus are basic, has less cars that look detailed 200 compared to Forza's 400 etc.

The areas where i think Gt5 is better is the graphics of the overall game. The 200 premium cars look better then any other cars ever created, period. The racing world looks awesome from the green grass to the racing stands.

I am a huge racing fan, if you look at my gamer tags your see i have pretty much every racing game this gen on both consoles. GT5 is a really good game, but best racing game this gen in terms of simulation still belongs to Forza 3. I think overall the reviews reflect that.

Driving physics are better than any console game. Period.

It is still the best driving simulator, perhaps not the best racing game ...

LINK ????

IGN Final Impressions: "This is the best driving simulation available for consoles... and by some margin."
"After six long years, it's reaffirmed itself as the king of simulation."

Eurogamer: "This is the Holy Grail of racing sim games."

GamePro: " I know that while it’s the best racing game out there, with just a bit more focus in some key areas it could have been even better."

PlayStation LifeStyle: "Gran Turismo 5 is the pinnacle of the racing simulation genre"

thx you for the quote.

Simulators don't necessarily make the most fun gaming experience. I mean if somebody were to make a relistic combat simulator, it wouldn't be all that fun. Lots of tedium and boredom with moments of panic combined with a lot of I'm dead instantly and I don't know how.

Flight simulator comes to mind. They made it a very realistic experience. But it's not that enjoyable unless you're an aviation nut.

The thing is, GT5 always aimed to be just this, a realistic depiction of the racing world. Probably it's still far from being actually real, but it's as close as it gets, and for all that it's worth, GT5 was always mentioned for that.

I'm not saying everyone should enjoy it, it isn't a game for everyone, but I think gamers shouldn't look for things in a game which weren't there from the get go and were never promised as well. GT5 is a game for racing fans and car nuts, it's the GT legacy and each new iteration delves further into it. After more than 10 years, I don't know why people are expecting for it to transform into something that it is not.

That's like asking a Zelda game to stop being an adventure game and become an JRPG, FIFA or PES to become a football manager or Call of Duty/Halo to become a Counter Strike type of game. Things are what they are and should be evaluated for so.

I'm not sure if I agree with you that the game is just for fans and car nuts.

Well, probably the grand majority of the interviews Kazunori Yamauchi ever made during the development of GT5 stated that he wanted to create the perfect racing game, an authentic car encyclopedia experience. Surely those who would appreciate those aspects more are both racing fans and car nuts right, like Kazunori himself right?

GT games in the past have been critiziced for lacking the depth, be it in physics or car differences of an actual sim, and for the grand part that criticism was partly correct, and GT5 tried to correct that aspect.

What I don't understand is why giving a better simulation experience is now considered not to be the best approach, not only amongst reviewers, but with a lot of gamers as well?

GTA CoD says hi to you

Still sounds like a good game, but not quite delivering it considering it was 6 years on the making. I wonder if that's another doing of the japanese developer curse that hit this gen... maybe it's time for Sony to reconsider leaving GT to PD's hands.

EA does better racing games nowadays. Turn 10 does better with one third of the time. Tell me, which was the latest innovation Yamauchi brought into racing? Unlock car damage and cockpit views? He'll always be remembered as the man of the all delay and no deliver now on. Better yet, what the hell Sony's japanese first party delivered this gen so far? Nothing.

Only museums live from the past. Yeah, damn nice PD developed the first GT, how amazing it was... but they can't cut it anymore. Like most japanese developers, they still live in the PS2 era delivering the same old games. A hundred Skylines and Mazdas when most of your userbase is in damn Europe? Five real tracks and bad damage? What the fuck.
