Forums - General - Should the unemployed kill themselves to enable lower taxes?

Consider for a moment my story:

http://www.walletpop.com/blog/2010/03/01/sen-scrooge-bunnings-brushback-pitch-hurting-the-unemployed

In this, I lose unemployment benefits and had to make adjustments.  Well, this is one of the replies:

So, I would ask: Should the unemployed kill themselves to enable lower taxes?  Considering one person alone won't due it (and in a sick ironic note, the manager of the former position I did work at, did take his own life after the desk was closed (my last full-time position I had in 2007), I don't see how it would work.  If I were to take the person's wishes true, then it would have to be every unemployed person.

Or, if this sounds too harsh, would one argue something has gone seriously wrong in the minds of some people in America?  While this comment is pointed at me, I have to wonder why anyone would think this.  One can say, "Well, it is the Internet after all", but so?  If it wasn't what someone was thinking, then why would they write it, for giggles?  One could say maybe it was a faux message to make conservatives look bad.  But, read the other posts in the thread.  They are still the same.

This deserves a Jonathan Swift-level essay.  A modern day Modest Proposal, if you will.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

No! Do not kill yourself!!! The guy who wrote that is an idiot (conservative). Don't listen to him!!!

Edit: Read the comments. Simply terrible!!! What kind of people would say such things???

Welcome to the internet?

I mean, aren't you familiar with "proffesional trolls".

Granted this website has few then most places... but we still have plenty.

90% of stuff like this people don't even mean but just say because they love to rile people up.

It's not a "Fake message to make conservatives look bad".  It's likely an exageratted message just to piss people off.

Also I wouldn't call people who make such posts conservatives.

In general, studies show that conservatives donate more time money and blood then liberals.

The only bigger indicator is how religious you are.  Though interesting the actual religion doesn't matter, just that you bleive.

Most likely if someone actually DID mean it it'd be a hybrid extremist.

Most likely someone who beleives in conservative fiscality but was socially liberal and more likely then not an atheist.

Basically a libretarian who was a douchebag... and likely a sociopath.

Something like... 5% of the world is supposed to be sociopaths in some estimations.

Think that's a good part of "proffesional trolling" too.

The internet allows sociopaths to be... well sociopaths and be free of judgement when usually they have to hide their sociopathy and pretend to care about people.

You can find those people in any political group.

Being an unemployed Conservative I find alot offensive in this thread thus far. lolbut in all honesty I saw alot of threads that said if a man couldn't afford health care he deserved to die. Fact is their are some selfish horrible people out there who only care about themselves. They would gladly watch thousands if not millions die just so they could have a few more luxiries and advantages.

Don't pay attention to pricks who minimalize human life, they aren't worth your time.

To be fair... such a description could be used to fit the entire world.

How many people do everything they can do to help others?

No one who can afford to be on the internet or who plays videogames surely.

Sure not everyone is completely selfish.

But everyone is far more selfish then they should be.

Funny thing is the capitalist system relies on a minimum level of unemployment to keep wages and inflation down, and hence profits up and prices down. 4% unemployment as about as low as a capitalist system can go without putting significant upward pressure on wages, and with upward pressure on wages is upward pressure on inflation. Inflation is a much more insidious erosion of wealth than taxes, because in general the taxation % remains pretty stable (in stable economic conditions) but inflation continually, irrevocably and inexorably diminishes your purchasing power. And inflation reduces profitability.

People who bleat about taxes haven't got a clue. Its inflation that gets you in the end. It's inflation that means your retirement savings plan is never worth what you think it will be worth. It's inflation that means you can't afford as much stuff this year as you could last year (assuming you've kept your job and same rate of pay). It's inflation that means your power bill keeps going up. All the while taxes remain the same year on year on year. Every extra dollar you earn may only mean another 60c in your pocket after income tax, but next year that 60c will only get you what 57c buys you this year, and the year after that it's only gonna get you 54c worth of stuff.

So killing off the unemployed won't do much to your taxes, but it'll make inflation spiral out of control. That will surely make those who are working and paying a tiny bit less tax poorer in real terms.
